worst smell ever...

Just got my Leatherique products today. I'm real excited and have the front and rear seats, glove box, center console, door panels, ashtray, and all other leather pieces out of the car and ready for treatment. I will post all the steps I take and results along with before and after pics soon.

I am concerned about one thing now, which is which method I will

use to apply the dye. It can be brushed on or sprayed. The problem is I don't have a spray gun/compressor, so right now it looks like I'll have use the brush. I'll have to take a day or two to make up my mind on this issue and then get started. I have never done this sort of thing before,so I'm just trying to avoid a bad decision.

I'll post a message as soon as I start :)

<strong class='bbc'>Hello all,

I just ordered products from "Leatherique". I'd love to hear opinions from all of you on these products or any other comments you may have.

Thank You in Advance [/b]</blockquote>
Hi Philip,

In case you haven't found this already, you should check out Todd Kenyon's M5 page, which has a Leatherique demonstration on it. The results are great. My seats were restored with this product also (but not by me), and look great. My car is also an M5, but has the tan interior.

Cheers,

Jeff

My '06 Grand Prix has been in the impound for over a year and the cops were nice enough to leave a frozen pizza in there ALL of last summer. I'm getting it back soon, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. It's about as stinky as stinky gets and I'm afraid I might have to replace the entire interior.

Well welcome to TID ogalthorpe, and you do have some work to do. First off do you have insurance on the car? if you do then they should pick up the tab in cleaning / replacing the interior fabric's. It need to be deep clean or be replace. Hard for me to know if not being there but I would contact a specialist who clean's up area's like this.

odor removal

IF the smell is as bad as you say you could rent a ozone machine and also use a product called odor extinguisher which is a product that is made from lava rock. If you can access the car before you get it out of the impound lot you could place the odor extinguisher in the vehicle while the windows are closed and that would give you a great start. With my vast experience I have in crime and death scene clean up I can tell if I saw the vehicle if things are going to work or not. I am sure the odor has permiated the the cloth material etc and the metal. Remember that most products mask the odor and will come back to haunt you when the humidity is high. Good luck and I hope it works for you.

Wow, after 90 days they auction your car here. How much is it going to cost to get your car released? Might be better off putting that money towards another ride :Snowman:

The difficulty level in trying to resolve this odor problem on your own is quite high.

Would suggest you seek out an experienced qualified service provider who specializes in automotive odor removal to resolve the problem as it is very likely the odor can be removed without replacing parts.

An experienced provider can do many things for you including helping you to process the claim through your insurance company under the comprehensive portion of your policy. If your policy has been effect since the problem occurred and or the cost of the remediation does not exceed the value of the automobile.

Throwing a barrage of chemicals and ozone machine to attack the odor will not solve the problem and you would be far better off saving this money to pay a professional to do the job.

I recently detailed a BMW Touring (station wagon) that had a green, black, rotting, what looked like a ham and cheese sandwich under the seat.
Just removing the odor source helped an awful lot. I ended up extracting everything that was fabric and carpet with my Mytee HP60, using Meguiars Quick Out Carpet Stain Remover, and then following that with Meguiars Odor Eliminator, and the smell was gone. I believe the Odor Eliminator uses enzymes to help remove anything left after cleaning, so there is nothing left that will smell now or later. It has been a great product for my work in vehicles that have been neglected and or had gallons of stuff spilled in them and left to dry.
Wish you much luck with this one - I have thought about the ozone machine approach too, and doing research, these little guys cost alot of money, but apparently they work too, as they create ozone in the vehicle which is also supposed to kill bacteria, etc.., and remove the odor they produce..

Geez, I might want to go to the Police and ask them to pay for leaving a Pizza in your car in the first place...
