Working Menz PO85RD

That is American slang for a run down, not in good shape vehicle.

It is a car that is usually older, brought for doing the dirty work ( driving in bad weather, malls, some employment parking lots, unsafe parts of town, carrying the kids ;), etc.

Hey Bill, watch out for using the tap outside. If it doesn't fully drain, especialy in the hose, you can burst a pipe and burst the hose once it gets below freezing again.

Also, didn't Ketch talk about cracking of the clearcoat when using extreme temp differences?

Hot water on a cold car (60+ water to a 40- car) might not be to bad, but anything more exrreme then tahe, I think you are asking for problems.

I am so pleased that I could spark such a indepth discussion of the physical properties of water relative to freezing.

DK, it would be tough to measure the latent heat of evaporation which clearly would be the number one deciding factor over which the Mpemba effect would, in this case, result.

Someone just try it on the same car with two different temperature buckets of water.

You can look up the latent heat of evaporation on any steam table. I don't think that effect applies when washing a car. I mean, the things contribute to that effect occur over time on a stagnant body of water. When I am washing the car, the water flows over the surface and freezes quickly.

OT

First of all we got Cevalen my belgumese friend asking about beaters and then we get a pic of some trailor park in Mississippi........ very funny!

Then we get a scientific discussion about the Mpemba effect oif hot water freezing first over cold water SOMETIMES........Very funny too.

What was the question againnnnnnn?..... oh yeah how to wash in the cold....... find a friend at a delaership and pull in their heated garage to wash!!!

DK, if we agree that this happens, it happens for the following reasons

Evaporation

Dissolved Gasses

Convection

Surroundings

Supercooling

Out of these which one(s) apply? Certainly evaporation has a cooling effect more on warm water then cold water the other is probably surrondings, but again did we confirm this phenomenon on are cars even?

How much can you work PO8RD once it turns clear?

I was experimenting last night and it seemed to have no ill effect.

Is there any benefit to continue to polish using lighter pressure? I really am not sure if there was any positive effect either but obviously did not spend a lot of time since I was trying to finish up the car (not even 1/4 way done doing it at night). I had just work it until it clears plus a few light passes.

I also had run it at speed 5 with the flex and then decided to try speed 5.5 (just not quite 6) and it did work a little faster. Any harm at 6?

If you notice, I have doing some polishing but do not often try varying anything if the one routine gave satisfactory results. Now, I am getting curious about the variables to see if I can get better results.

I work 85rd to death when using to jewel the paint. Once the abbrasives break down it's like jewelers rouge. Most stop too soon.

I've easily gone 9 passes with it on speed 6 with the 3401 getting lighter as I go towards the end. Paint looks great.

That is what i wanted to hear. When it turns clear, it is virtually gone and the paint has a squeaky feel since it comes off so cleanly.

I just was not sure how much I should continue to refine. I did some tape offs to see comparisons but nothing really noticeable- maybe yes but not sure.
