Won't be around much for the next 10 days but...

There are a couple products that can do that. Your basic Armor All is an option but that tends to just attract the dirt quicker it seems. There is also Detailer's Pride Engine Degreaser that you can get on autogeek.com if you want. It is a little better but not a whole lot. I use a spray formula that I can get at Kmart or just about anywhere. It is availible at this website if you are interested in looking around for it. http://waxdepot.safeshopper.com/65/315.htm?855
It really does a great job at shining the hoses and valve covers. It is really easy to use and unlike Armor All, it doesn't leave that brown look behind after a long time between treatments. If you can find it locally then I would try it.

This is a non-oily product that works great.

SPRAY ON ENGINE GLOSS
Your car looks impeccably maintained on the outside - why not do the same under the hood? Spray Engine Gloss on all plastic and rubber parts and it will leave behind a clear, thin coating without yellowing. Gives a "factory new" look to all of your hoses. Restores tired looking plastic parts instantly, and makes multi-colored wiring look incredibly vibrant! Repels dust and makes "engine wipe downs" a breeze. If you show your car, let this be your secret for a fabulous engine compartment. 10.14 ounces (300ml). Made for us in Germany

Guess? I like Black Magic Dashboard Protectant on pretty much all the black plastic everywhere on my car. I used it on hoses and trim everywhere. (not shiny though)

If you want to you can go the Zaino route and use the Z-16 "Perfect Tire Gloss" product. I use it and it appears to be doing just fine in regards to holding up to engine heat.

Comes in a squeeze bottle, but you can always put it in a sprayer bottle and use it that way as well.

I would discourage the usage of Amor-all on your engine and any where else on your car....its pretty much junk. Im sure Ron K. would give the technical explanation for why its junk.

I would also shy away from most tire dressings such as Black opal, Detailer's Pride, etc. due to the usage of Silicones that may harm rubber components. My personal reccomendation would be 303 Aerospace Protectant for its rubber protecting qualities. Afterall you are trying to prolong the life of the rubber compontents of your engine.

I agree with Steve. If your engine is now clean you can simply go nuts spraying 303. I did this to my Expedition and it really made everything look great. It is for rubber and plastic, and I was not too concerned how the painted parts looked (other than clean). But I shot them also, or at least wiped them down with the same towel. I like 303 very much, and Zaino Z-16 on the tires and outside rubber. The Zaino is a bit more expensive so I use it for stuff that shows. I am also going to start using 303 on my hot-tub cover :D

I double checked on Zaino's web site and the Z-16 is non-silicone oil based. I did a quick check on my new Bimmer's engine compartment and the hoses are still nice and black and same with the engine covers. (BMW has covers all over the engine)

One thing I noticed is that there is not a speck of dust on the entire engine, so no sticking or static. I'm really impressed with that. Even with a new car you get air-born contaminates inside the engine compartment.

I applied it with a little foam brush from Home Depot and it took about a nickle size worth to do the entire job.

I am hearing more about 303 so I'll need to check this out and perhaps use it on my wife's 4Runner.

You can get it from CMA (www.properautocare.com), I think they carry Wurth's product line.

Gummi Phlege (such a fun name to say) is also good, available from BMW dealers. I believe it comes in spray and tube, but not sure.

Deckard [/b]</blockquote>Deckard, I think Wurth is based in your part of the world. Try http://www.wurth.com or http://www.wuerth.com for the German site

Thanks alot for the information. It's always fun to visit this board. There is no unanswered questions here.

I'll still keep an eye on you.

Ryan B (Rydawg) and I are flying to a top secret location, somewhere cold, between two mountains (think Airwolfe) to work on a collection of original paint muscle cars.

I am leaving for the airport in a couple of minutes, then will be traveling for about 10 hours to the top secret desination.

This message will implode in 10 seconds....

they will be gloss gloss gloss. Update one: air ports are stupid. My flight leaves a 10:20 but the check in doesn't open until 9:30. It takes an hour to get through security here...
