Windshield wiping destroying beading

Hey guys, long time no post! Anyways, I have an interesting issue here. Usually I like to wax my windshield with Collinite 476S to help with water beading, and it has worked very well. I got new windshield wipers (Bosch Evolution, frameless wipers) a few months ago, and I've noticed that somehow the wipers consistently destroy the beading, even if I use them a few hours after waxing. The parts of the windshield that aren't "wiped" retain their expected beading, but the "wiped" areas have the typical non-waxed look where the water completely clings and distorts the view.



The other car which uses Bosch Icons (used for about 1.5 years) seem to have none of these issues. I was wondering whether anybody has noticed similar problems, and whether they have any advice. I've tried to wipe down the wipers while doing my ONR washes, but it hasn't seemed to help. I might consider doing a more intensive alcohol treatment on the wipers, but I'm not sure whether that would affect the rubber and wiping performance.
 
I almost never use my wipers if I've waxed the windshield. unless its a driving rain, which I don't make a habit of driving in.
 
mikebai1990- No solution to your problem as I don't wax my glass, but I just wanted to say "hi!" :wavey I haven't been over to the MPV forum in ages.
 
I wax my windshield as well (just love the beading but doesn't last long) but perhaps products similar Aquapel might be better suited. I'm still researching into that product (hopefully someone could chime in) but for now I like using up the waxes that I don't like use them for the windshield.

The issue isn't durability, because I mentioned that even hours after application the protection (or at least the beading) is immediately gone after a couple of wiper passes.



476S has worked well for me in the past, and I mentioned that it works well on the other car. Just haven't been able to figure out why my specific wipers are causing problems.



I'm just going to try the alcohol treatment when I get the chance.
 
May be it is an issue of switching back to the original wipers and ditching the Bosch. I suspect the Bosch wipers may be "out performing" your window treatment. They may be designed with more "clearing power" over conventional wipers. Other then that, if you used some combination prior and switched recently and have the problem, go back to what works.

Yeah, one variable was changed, the result sucked, so I'd go back to the original baseline.

For a while, I didn't like RainX because I felt the durability was quite poor.

Later, I realized that my normal windshield wiper fluid was at fault.

Now, all I do is add a couple oz of ONR into my washer reservoir (with h20 of course), and now I don't have to worry about my traditional washer fluid stripping my LSP or RainX protection.



It's been raining a fair bit lately (and I use my wipers a lot, too), and the RainX beading lasts. Plus, no issue with the un-wiped areas appearing a different opacity compared to the wiped areas of the glass.



I got my 24-pack of RainX off ebay for maybe $15 shipped. It's going to last me a long time! Perhaps switch back to RainX instead of Collinite, but also switch to ONR for your washer fluid?

You CA guys kill me. We have to have wiper fluids with alcohol in them here in the NE...BECAUSE IT GETS BELOW FREEZING.



Personally, I don't expect any wax or sealant to last long against a rubber blade who's job is to squegee the surface on every stroke. I'd bet that the OP's problem is simply new, more effective blades. I also really don't like what wax does to the windshield wiping, I prefer to use sealant on the windshield, even if I happen to be using wax on the rest of the glass.
 
One of the reasons I don't use anything on any of my windows is that glass cleaners strip it right off. And I clean my windows almost daily.
 
I applied on my windshield Aquapel and I am very satisfied with it! The wipers and my washer fluid doesnt even touch the protection on the glass.
 
I think your best bet is to apply Aquapel to your windshield and use regular washer fluid, this is what I will be doing once I order the Aquapel. I am currently using Rain-X windshield washer fluid and it leaves tons of streaking, I really don't recommend it.
 
Its already on my car for like 5 months now (maybe a little more) and even did some washes with high dilution of CG CWG and its still going on. Really good stuff!
 
people actually use some chemicals in their washer fluid?



I used plain ol' everyday water...well not "normal" water of course, I use distilled water. I've never had something on my windshield that plain water couldn't take off and it doesn't affect my beading when used (like I said, I don't use my wipers in the rain...water sheets off and I can see just fine)
