Windshield wiping destroying beading

Sure. Leaving out the issue of freezing temps, some stuff won't come off with plain water. Some of my vehicles even have secondary "intensive" washer systems that use an especially strong solution for extreme situations. In some winter conditions it's easy to go through a gallon of fluid mighty fast.

I've simply *NEVER* had a problem with washer fluid. Doesn't compromise my LSPs at all under most circumstances and it sure doesn't do any damage. Yeah, I know it *can*, my '93 Audi has finish damage from it, but that's because the car wasn't properly maintained/LSPed by its original owner.

.. I've never had something on my windshield that plain water couldn't take off ..(like I said, I don't use my wipers in the rain...water sheets off and I can see just fine)

Hope you never find yourself in a situation where that doesn't work...the sort of situation where seconds count. People die over a few seconds' inablility to see clearly. You can't always just stop the car and clean the windshield when something nasty suddenly obscures your vision.

I doubt if I've used my washers a dozen times in my life other than in the winter, but those times when I *did* use them it was life-or-death serious that I clear the windshield immediately.

Even just *rain* can be an issue; I've been in many situations where the fastest wiper setting was barely sufficient to maintain visibility; there was no question of water sheeting off/etc. under those conditions. (Note that I generally don't use my wipers much at all, yeah..light precip blows right off. But other conditions are different).

Sorry if the preceding sounds just too :nono

I used plain ol' everyday water...well not "normal" water of course, I use distilled water. I've never had something on my windshield that plain water couldn't take off and it doesn't affect my beading when used (like I said, I don't use my wipers in the rain...water sheets off and I can see just fine)

It sounds like you must have a garage queen because I've hit some bugs in my time that most chemicals struggled to remove let alone plain water.

well, I'm in Houston, we hardly ever get "freezing" conditions but once or twice a year over night...

nope, don't take it as condescending, just a heads up which I appreciate, it means you care about your fellow man :bigups

I've never had an issue where I needed it, life or death...just lucky I guess.

Heh heh, yeah...I'll admit I kinda figured you were in a warm climate. I'll also admit I come at some of this stuff from a, uhm...certain perspective. One that might not resonate with everybody (ever have somebody in another vehicle throw some [stuff] on your windshield? Eh, I know, that doesn't happen to most people). Glad you didn't take offense.
