will SSR2/1 do anything for THESE??

Hey..

Thought I'd take some pics of the swirls, or 'spiderwebbing' i've got on my car. When you look straight on, its fine - looks perfect...its only when the sun is shining and you look sort of on an angle of less than say 45degs that u notice em... does that make sense?

Anyway, there all over the car...specially the hood and boot - what I'm wondering is, would SSR1 & or SSR2 get rid of these? I was going to buy both...but maybe I only need SSR2???

Are they bad enough that SSR1 will do nothing ??? Maybe use SSR2 AND DACP??

Please let me know .. thanks heaps!
Andrew

Normally looking .. cant see a thing

Are using PC or by hand? With PC, DACP with a cutting pad will probably work. You should try the yellow polishing pad first with DACP, if it didn't remove anything, go ahead with the cutting pad. Follow with SMR like 3m or meguiars no.9 with a polishing pad. Good luck.

I was planning by hand .. as I dont have a PC - would it work by hand??

thats why I was thinking SSR2 and SSR1 ... what about SSR3 - never hear bout that

Definitely SSR2 not SSR1 ...if you are doing it by hand a few passes will probably be needed.
You already have a nice shiny finish from what we can see from the first shot, so SSR3 is out of the question here. I would work some very small sections and slowly expand as it clears up.

It'll be a lot of work if working by hand. I have never used any of the poorboys ssr's so i can't give you any opinions on them. I really recommend anyone who wants to take any imperfections on their paint to get a PC or rotary. It will make the job easier, faster and gives better results. I've tried menzerna polishes and they work great. They can also be used by hand.

thanks all - Poorboy .... is there any special way of doing it by hand to get the best results???

i.e. do I just rub and buff in the stuff back and forth (in direction air moves?). Also, cause i'm just doing it by hand, what sort of pressure should I apply?? like....quite firm, or just even but not too heavy? (does that make any sense?!?!)

I would just give a small section a try and see what happens (with moderate pressure). SSR2 by hand will not cause any damage no matter what you do with it (within reason)

yes it makes sense:D

not being there to see how it's working myself, I would start by going with air flow with a cotton towel.
if they are really deep, you might have to go across the grain and then again with it. Nice firm pressure and small sections at a time...

Dtail - I also have Menzerna polishs but so far I have not removed those spider webs. Granted, the car is leaps and bounds better than my starting point. But I'm a novice trying to learn. Using a PC and IP and FP - what would you do for spider webs like those? IP on a cutting pad? What speed? How long? ...

Would SSR1 with the 7424 and yellow cutting pad (Lake Country pad I think, from Classic Motoring) work to remove the swirls? I have a similar situation on a red car also. I have SSR1, PP, PwC, and Ex, plus some 3M Finesse-It Fine Cut. Also have the white polishing pad from Lake Country, and a coulpe of Meg's Waffle Pads (don't like them that much). The car shines, but I can see swirls in certain light/angles.

Poorboy - so when u say across the grain, u mean sort of keep going back and forth but now diagionally across the scratches - but then always end up going straight back and forth? - sorta like below?

so... | then ... | end up again... |

just went to poorboys web site. what is the difference between SSR1 & SSR2? says they both remove light oxidation and etc. but how do you decide between SSR1 &SSR2?

My 2 cents -

SSR1 with a cutting pad doesn't seem like a good match to me. SSR1 is designed to remove light swirls and marring. A cutting pad may actually serve to worsen a decent finish. SSR1 with a polishing pad would be a better fit. Step up to SSR2 with a polishing pad for a bit more abrasiveness. SSR2 with a cutting pad would be the next step up beyond that.

You mentioned that you also have Pro Polish. I find that Pro Polish is a very versatile product whose level of aggressiveness can be significantly altered by varying the application method. It is also better equipped to handle oxidation problems that are common with red colors. If you don't want to purchase any additional products at this time, try PP in place of SSR2 in the procedure noted above.

:yeah

aheyn....what you are trying to accomplish is leveling the surface...polishing in a back and forth motion, going from side to side on the trunk for instance would be a first pass and then a second pass following wind patern(front to back) , even by hand this will slowly level the surface removing the swirls and spider webbing look. Some may be so deep that they will lessen but never come out, and that is when you need to detrermine if you can live with them or start to hide them with glazes and fillers temporarily.
