Why doesn't anyone carry CD-2 Engine Detailer?

Yes, I use Stoner's Trim Shine. From the posted pictures of CD2 engine detailer it looks about the same. But the CD2 engine detailer has that mythic quality. I just like to get a can for comparison. Between 303 and Zaino's Z16, I am happy with the look and durabilty.

...Worse than that, I called Autozone, they say they have it, but lo and behold, I get there and they point me to their Gunk brand when I specifically had asked them about the CD-2. And then the guy at NAPA was trying to convince me that their CD-2 Engine Restore was the CD-2 Engine Detailer that I was looking for. AARRRGH!...
Haha! I've had the 'exact' same experiences at my local Autozone with CD2 and other products. I specifically ask them if they have a specific brand and they tell me "sure we have it". Then when I go down there and I can't find it, they hand me Permatex instead of the 3M brand I requested or Black Magic instead of CD2, etc. They always tell me its the exact same stuff in a different bottle. AARRGH!!!!

CD2 left a long lasting chemical resin on everything and it was my all time favorite engine detailer. I tried Black Magic from Autzone, but won't be buying that again. I've since been using Optimum Tire Shine with good results, but only after the engine is perfectly clean. I haven't been able to get CD2 at my local stores for nearly a year.

I can still find it locally at a small auto parts chain in eastern MA. However, the price is $8 a can which IMO is pretty high. I just recently tried out Meguiar's Hyper Dressing because it's easier to get and MUCH cheaper when diluted 3:1. So far, I'm very happy with the Hyper Dressing.

"Mythic quality". That's a good way to put it. Few products get almost near unanimous praise. I figure I gotta try it. But if it performs anywhere near as advertised, it ought to be worth it.

I'm probably going to end up trying some of that and some of the other products in the Meguiar's Detailer line. I'll probably get some of the sample sizes from ADS and see what I settle on.

No joke on $8 being a little steep and then for those of us who would have to order online, add another $8 for shipping. Suddenly this little aerosol can gets pricey really quick.

Mike, can you say what stores you've seen this stuff in?

Anybody else have a source that doesn't require a case purchase?

Thanks !!

ZoranC is correct, I do have some. 12 to a case. And yes shipping is outrageous for a case; seems like it was $15-$22.00 thru UPS depending on shipping location. USPS has a pretty good deal using their Priorty box ($9 shipped anywhere up to 75#). I think I can fit 4-5 cans per box.

If anyone interested PM me.

I also use the CD2 cleaner which I like as well.

Turtle Wax now owns CD-2 ?

Turtle Wax - Engine Detailer

How is this engine detailer removed? What happens when it gets wet (driving in the rain)?

Thx.

It has been a few years since I used any, but if memory serves me correctly it is a lot like a tire foam: foams, cleans, and leaves a shine behind.

I don't remember being super impressed with it and have since just used the Stoner's tire foam on occasion. Others seem to swear by this stuff (CD-2) so maybe I didn't play around with it enough :nixweiss

CD2 does require some wipedown IME, as light applications leave an uneven coating; it never dries for me either, regardless of outside temp and humidity.

Since it's so hard to get nowadays, I was going to try a spray tire foam then wipedown next -- most likely start with Stoner's but I'll check out some other makes as well.

Sergei, if you have any experience with there engine detailer I surely would like to hear. I am a VERY big fan of there glass cleaner, and orange cleaner (KENIT) I think.

I didn't even know they had an engine cleaner.

I was searching for it as well but I have had good luck with Megs APC and Hyper Dressing......so the search is off!!

Thats my replacement for CD2... I liked the look of CD2 but didn't care for the application.

Nope.. I have never tried the CD2 as an engine cleaner. I am happy with 303, Z16. But in all my readings CD2 keeps coming up. I didn't realize it is a foam. That for me, would be a negative.

I did get a couple of cans from my sister who was able to get some in Dallas. I've got some good before and after pics that I'll try to post up after I download them and figure out photobucket.

Overall, I was pretty happy. I haven't looked back at it in a while. But it did have a "spotty" appearance after spraying that really didn't seem like it was going to even out on its own. So I did a wipedown to help even it out.

yeah I recommend a light wipedown with an MF. Even though it says not to. It does look nice and it does last. A couple months if you're not living in the desert.

Tom P.---Got my keys and will mail on Tuesday at the latest.

Thanks

Has anyone found a place to order just one can without crazy shipping rates? I don't know why they make this stuff so difficult to get.

Thanks a lot!

I ended up finding the product here at a small auto parts store and bought 1 can. I might try to work with it today to see how it is :)
