If I took the attacks on me personally I would have stopped coming to this site one month after I joined. I actually enjoy the banter. I refuse to use my "ignore" function for just that reason.



If there is one thing I have taken away from my time here at Autopia it is that the site has changed from what it once was and that a very small group of folks that were here from Autopia's "born on date" resent that change. I respect that...BUT...I do not respect the incipient attacks on folks that actually enjoy Autopia for what it is today. If you do not like what the site is then just do not post here anymore and go start your own new "gentleman's club" where your vision of what a detailing site should be is the norm. These underhanded blasts directed at the site do nothing to help it nor will they assist in bringing the site back to what it once was. They just add a negative tone to an otherwise very hospitable site.



One other thing that I would like to see is the proof of all these "black helicopter" theories of shady product promotion, crooked vendors and an otherwise corrupted Autopia. I have heard umteen million accusations of how the site it now nothing more than a product pusher but NOT ONE solid piece of evidence proving this. I personally have never received a product sample from anyone and then been told to give a glowing review with the promise that I would receive more free stuff....have you ??

Your involvement in this thread highlights your hypocrisy; you say you enjoy the banter but complain when others engage in the same thing. You state you don't take things personally but when someone challenges you, you respond with a multi-paragraph retort that is mostly about yourself (you used "I" 12 times in the above post). You state you want people to feel good about coming to this site yet resort to sarcasm and personal attacks when someone posts something you don't care for. You make a comment about a "quality post" but you engage in what most forums consider post whoring which is almost universally reviled.



You are the embodiment of one of the largest problems at Autopia, Mike. You DEMAND that others "play nice" and be respectful and frequently suggest that those who don't adhere to your definitions go somewhere else. You have no authority to make such demands. If you don't like the way some people play, take your ball to another sandbox. I have a lot more invested here than you do so I'm not going anywhere. Moving forward I suggest you take this issue up with the moderators or DavidB himself.

David and the mods have been notified several times in the past of known and/or suspected product shills. Very little action has ever taken place to remove them from the community.

I mean, you're making it seem like it's the UN oil-for-food scandel here. I don't see any harm unless those people report everything the company makes as god's gift to automotive detailing. And I haven't seen that. Although it's fairly possible since people don't go around telling everybody that they got an entire product line for free. :nixweiss

My "whining" only occurs when I see a blantantly negative comment directed at this site. Have you ever seen me start a thread with the intention of attacking someone with views different from my own? The only time I "fan the flames" is when someone else starts a fire. Call that "post whoring" or what have you but it was not I who fired the first shot. Don't displace your anger on me for responding to your intial attack.

Glad you counted the number of "I"s" I used. I have no qualms with honest debate...I encourage it. How did you challenge me Bret? All you did was attack me with the same type of sarcasm you accuse me of using...hypocrisy?? I ask you again...PROVE to me the facts of the first statement you made. Show me a clear cut example of a picture posting thug getting free products for writing a phony review and I will willingly shut up.



I do want folks to feel good about coming to this site. That is why I respond to the attacks I see directed against it. Autopia has been one of the friendliest sites I have ever joined. I am always amazed by how folks are so willing to help others with their detailing problems or (heaven forbid) give them a compliment on the picture they posted. If I must be the lightning rod for all the resentment directed towards this site by folks like yourself...then so be it...my skin is thick.

I claim to have no authority on such issues nor do I make demands. I simply state that if you do not like the direction and course this site has taken then go post somewhere else. Negative comments on how bad this site has become (in your opinion) does nothing. As far as invested time...does the fact that I have been here less than a year mean I do not care about the site?? I don't think so. That is why I ask you to PROVE to me all these conspiracy theories and I will be the first to call shananigans and make the facts known.

I have no reason to further engage you on this topic. I will continue to call things as I see them. You can like it or lump it, I couldn't care less. As for proof or a PM, don't hold your breath. You're entitled to neither from me. Any evidence I have gets forwarded to those who have the authority to do something about it, and that ain't you.

Actually This wasnt my first post. And thank you for the personal attack. Do you feel like a big man now? I have been on autopia since JUNE. Dont you think I would have posted a little sooner for Der stuff if I was trying to advertise? Have you read my other post asking for opinions on meguiars, 3m, 1z, etc? I am actually a 1z and PC user, as stated if you would have read my first post. I actually only asked for oppinions on it as I have used it and am In no way affiliated with the product. I could give a carp what people think about the product. DONT BUY IT FOR ALL I CARE. Where do I shop for my products. If you care to know, Autopia store, and my local car detailing store, all of which do not carry der stuff. If you were not personally calling me out, I guess I read it wrong but as of now, Get a life. Sorry I didnt feel it necessary to post 700 times before making a statement. I figured after 7months of reading I would finally open my mouth about a product I have tried and liked. I didnt leave a link to the website if you noticed? I don't believe Autopia is 'corrupted' by shady vendors but I recall several instances of it. I remember one product where the tracert tracked as close to the location of the manufacturer as possible and the so-called poster refused to discuss whether he was affiliated with the company repeatedly. One of the moderators banned him after his refusal to respond to the questions.



I also recall another time a manufacturer apologized because one of the company's employees were promoting one of those magic bullet products on this site as a regular poster.



I remember another poster who acted as a regular member but was trying to use Autopia as a free advertisement/shop for his microfiber towels.



To reiterate, I don't believe Autopia has been ruined by any unscrupulous business practices, however I am simply pointing out a few memories of mine to illustrate that there is merit to some posters concerns for legitimate, critical, and honest analyses of products. I don't see anything wrong with being cautious when it comes to new products, but we also need to be open minded. I think we do a great job of that here, and by far, the best out of all the detailing related websites.

I think it would be better for the value of the board if we stop these needless personal attacks and focus on the product.

I actually have der shinney stuff and der real stuff,but after all that has been said with speculation an back biting it not really an atmosphere to post ones experiences. It an acrilylic

baed copolymer that is reflective and very easy on/off with no klasse haze.I have even mixed sg with der shinney stuff an had good durability on my neighboor big white ford pu. 4 months or so.It is more shinney than deep..
