Whoh! I clayed with ONR and my car looks stunning!

Hello everyone,

Just clayed my car (CG Gray) using a strong mixture of ONR as lube. I did NOT wash my car afterwards, just wiped it down with a MF. Mind you, this is over Z5, ZCS, and Z8.



As I walked to my car this morning I couldn't help but go Whoh! The car looks VIBRANT! Clean, fresh, crisp, as if the vehicle's paint had been given a breath of fresh air.



It didn't have that synthetic wet Z8 look, in fact that seemed to be completely gone. But the mixture of the previous polishing reflective properties and what ever the hell the clay or ONR did was nice!



Now, my gut tells me that most the zaino layers are in tact even though I clayed. From what I can tell, unless you specifically buy an aggressive clay most the stuff out there isn't too strong. Maybe someone can chime in on this? In any case, the muting effects of Z8 are gone and the metallic flake is SPARKLING !

Dude, I'm reconsidering doing the Ultima detail now... I may just top with ONR instead of Z8!

i just got some onr i'll have to mix some up as a qd. did you follow the dilution recomendations on the bottle, or what did you mix it as? by the way whether the zaino is gone or not car looks great, those bmw's look good clean or diry!

I had mixed the ONR at the clay lube ratio a while ago, but I've added more since so I think its at QD if not stronger. Thanks!

I was also blown away by the gloss and slickness that ONR added the first time I did a wash with it. I just freakin love the stuff.

My impression is that most clays on the market are mild. I purchased my clay from the chemical guys. Its their gray block. I'd say its a bit stronger then meguiar's smooth surface clay kit's clay, but I've seen it leave particles behind on other cars. If it stripped it (which was originally my intention) thats fine, though I'm now left VERY confused.



If stripped, this means the ONR impressed me more then my 8xZ5, 3xCS and Z8 - which I feel is a bit hard to believe. To be fair, I'd have to say 80% of the look, the reflectivity, was due to polishing so I guess its possible... I really don't know to be honest :buffing:

How did you wash? 2 bucket? Spray on wipe off? I'm thinking of switching to ONR as my car wash. Then again, a car wash is a bit different then applying and wiping off clay lube.

If it has been a week or less since my last washing and my car isn't really dirty, one bucket is all I need. If it has been a while since a wash and my car is dirty, I go with two buckets with a little ONR in the rinse bucket so as not to dilute the wash bucket as much. As far as spray on wipe off, ONR makes a great QD but for at typical wash, I would go with a bucket or two.

I recommend doing so. I love the shine it gives my car.

Nice, I have the same color as you on my 335 and will be using ONR this weekend. I'm excited to see the results! Just bought a white micro chenille mit and an infamous grout sponge from Home Depot.



Danforz, do you also get severe dusting from the BMW brake pads?

I do get some nasty break dust, though interestingly more so on the back rims then front. However, some armorall wheel cleaner and meguiar's wheel brush makes it a 10 minute ordeal max to clean

Yup, the brake dust on my car is horrible too. BMW brake pads are too soft and dust like crazy. I'm tired of cleaning my wheels every two days, so I'm solving the problem this weekend. I'm swapping the brake pads for low dust pads. I hear the difference is huge and well worth the $150 for the pads. No wheel wax or spray can compare I think. Let me know if you want details.



As for Space Gray..my winter detail will by FK2180 sealant topped with FK1000P synthetic wax and some 425 QD to add some crazy gloss. I'll post up my results once complete!

I've heard about those brakes. I believe modbargins sells them? I don't think I'm going to change any of the parts on my car but let me know how it works. And definitely post pics of the detail

F.Y.I if you dry with a MF after using ONR.............. that is washing your car!

I think what Altez is saying by not periodically dipping your wash media (MF towel, mitt, etc) in a bucket, that is not the traditional way to wash with ONR. I guess his view is spraying on ONR and wiping it off is more like using ONR as a QD rather than washing with ONR.

I think it is probably the combination of claying and ONR that gave you the look. Even mild contamination can slightly dull the finish, so removing it definitely helps. And yes, ONR does add some "pop" to the paint, especially at QD strength.



BTW, add an ounce of denatured alcohol to a quart of QD strength ONR and you have a really good glass cleaner.

My gut tells me it also had something to do with the Z8, or at least the removal of it. I get the feeling Z8 darkened the finish, and I'm pretty positive it muted the flake. At the time, I was fine with this since it made the car look wet. But something about how it looked today was so much more, well, for a lack of a better term crisp!

I only clay with ONR (at washing strength); don't see the point in wasting QD (or ONR at QD strength) on it.
