Who uses a DA Flex with 5.5-in pads?

Now that I think about I have a car in mind that I can do a little test on. This car is on the way to be restored and honestly we don't care about the paint since it will be srtipped anyway. I'm gonna tip the flex with a small pad and see what kind of damage it does. Give me a few days and I'll follow up with a picture.
Check out my question in post #16. :cornut:

Everyone has their own technique and needs for their work, whether it's casual, production, or custom detailing, right ?

Besides being way easier to handle with the 5.5" pad on the VRG3401, I really like that it doesnt take as much material to get the pad broken in and working much quicker, than with the same pad in 6.5"

I also have found its much easier to correct a spot with the outer edge of a smaller pad, because there is less mass to have to control, and I think I can get more effective pressure on the smaller pad than the larger one. Especially when there are just a few little light scratches that need to be toned down, the smaller diameter pad always does a better job at just hitting those scratches for me.

Given that I have never followed the 2' x 2' rule anyway, and generally correct/polish/jewel way more than that at a time, the 5.5" allows me to move it around faster without problems from the machine, and my corrections are still always great.

I also like to use the 5.5 pad with my Rotary's, except when I have to do something big like that Monster Black Ford SVT Raptor I just finished yesterday that is sitting in my garage.

I am still hoping that someone, someway, will be able to figure out how to make all the parts still work on the machine and give us all the sizes we need.

So there you have it, I am, I guess, turning into a 5.5' pad Junkie! :(:):(:)

But I'm still darn proud of it - "Damn the torpedos ! Full speed ahead" !!! :):):)

Makes PLENTY of sense.

My backing plate is getting gewb'd by gewb himself. :hurray::D

Do you think I'll be able to use the HT thin pads with the gewb'd backing plate, considering the HT pads have a recessed velcro edge? Maybe the backing plate won't be small enough?

It may work but it is hanging over and I had it cut into my other pads. I havent used the HT pads with it because I took a dremel to mine to cut it even more
