Said Goodbye to My First Car on Sunday :(

Well Sunday was a sad day for me, I got rid of the first car i ever owned....

2.5 years ago my dad helped me get a loan for my Acura RSX. I wouldnt have been able to get a loan without him. I loved my car and took very good care of it. Meanwhile my dad, a very hard working architect who runs his own firm, is driving a 1998 4runner with considerable paint and interior damage. Basically a car that a rising business man should not be driving.

Now for the basis of my decision...

It was Fathers Day and i thought it would be best to help out my dad in any way that i could. He is a simple guy so picking out a gift can be pretty difficult at times. So last week i told him that i would trade in/sell my car so he could buy a new car.

Long story short, we traded my car in on Fathers Day so he coulod buy a 2003 BMW 525i w/ only 13,000 miles. needless to say we got a good deal on the car and trade in. But even more importantly, It was the most excited I have ever seen him in my entire life. If he was not as excited as he was i would be more upset about trading in my car.

thanks for taking the time to read it. i just needed to write about it somewhere.

Very cool!

Being a fairly young adult myself its great to finally get a job and and start being able to really afford all of the different things that I enjoy. In the same breath its an even better feeling to repay my parents for all the many things they have done w/ out for so many years.

IE: My parents always made decent salaries but are the type of people who always spent the money on us (me and 2 older brothers) for college and such and house improvements ect. My father who is a small business owner hit some bad times a few years back and actually finally coming out of that slump now. Well a few years ago ... it had been years since they had been on a real vacation. They would take the occasional weekend trip here or there but never a trip that would be more than 3-500.00 for the 2 of them...Packing lunches ect .. So Christmas was around the corner .. I called the travel agent and got a price for a 10 day cruise and said ok ill take it... I called my two older brothers and told them what I had done and they were both suprised!! They decided they wanted to help out on the deal...So we split the cost of it and actually added a 5 day stay down in Florida. We were able to get a huge 10ftx20ft poster of the ship that they were going on! On christmas day we had them open the poster. That was the first christmas that we ever video taped.. And that was the first christmas that I think I was more excited to give them that present than anything else... That was truely a christmas I will never forget! They still tell their friends how their "boys" sent them on the most incredible vacation!

I guess in the end...the very most important thing (at least to me..) is family...friends will come and go but family is forever. You only have one real Mom and Dad so enjoy the time you have with them the best you can!

jstn you did a great thing...that you will never forget and your father will never forget! Im sure he is extreamly proud knowing that he raised such a great son!

Cheers ....
