White letter blues

I have white letter tires on one of my vehicles and I used to use Westley's bleche-white, that is until I looked closely at my chrome wheels one day; oh my god they were practically destroyed. The acid ate right into the chrome. I am prresently using EO wheel cleaner and EF, they work really well, but does anyone remember back when white letter tires were REALLY popular, there was a "white letter tire stick" you could buy to "rewhiten" the letters. Anyone remember the name or know of a place that sells it? I've searched everywhere, on the internet, stores, you name it.:nixweiss

If you take nothing else from this post remember, chrome and bleche-white do not mix; highly acidic! It does say that on the bottle if you read close enough, but if you're anything like me you just like the fact that it works.

IMO, Westley's Bleche-White is one of the worst car care products ever. I'm sorry you had to discover this the hard way.

I know exactly what you are talking about as I had one years ago. I haven't seen one in ages but if I stumble across it, I'll let ya know. In the meantime, if you need a good one-time cleaning of white letters, try a household cleaner like Ajax or Comet cleanser. Use with a stiff brush and scrub away. I've had good luck with these products on scuffed tires, and they won't stain or mar wheels like Westley's will.

I found those sticks today at a couple of parts stores. I needed a tread depth gauge and I found the sticks in the tire repair section. Next time you're in a parts store, look for them. About $3.00.

I believe a place called Farm & Fleet around me which has a significant amount of detailing supplies had that stuff. Keep that in mind. I'd prefer to clean up the white lettering that is there because I wouldn't think the stick stuff is too druable. I've found the white letters to clean up pretty good for me.

I just saw a product from One Grand that is made for white walls and white lettering on top of the line's website.

Sorry to hear of your experience...I love to spend free time reading labels and precautions....

Bleach-white says not to get it on Chrome, Aluminum, painted surfaces...

Ever try to spray it on and scrub it and not get ANY on the body or wheel:o
