White car help

Sorry for all the threads I've been starting recently, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can.

I have an 02 White Explorer that is in good shape, but doesn't really have the shine I want, even after putting a few hours work into it.

I'm looking for some good cleaner/polisher/wax/sealer products that aren't too expensive, and hopefully even available locally. I'm currently using Mothers brand of car products, and I do like them. However my car doesn't look like some of the White I've seen on here. Also, does anybody make a tinted product so you can actually see where you've applied it to the car? Using white wax on a white car can be a pain. :(

Thanks guys, you are really helpful to me and my nagging questions. :) Pleas keep in mind I don't know about most of these products, and 3 letter acronyms will usually confuse me. :scared:

Its really hard to suggest a really good polish that is sold OTC, I actually am yet to find one...there really is no substitute to high quality products, if you truly are trying to make white look its best there is no way you can do it with OTC stuff...I have two white cars and i have tried, there is no way, you either going to ahve to spend the money and order it from an online vendor or live with what youve got...there are some OK sealants sold OTC that would help protect your paint but 90% of making a car look good is in the prep...

What products would you recommend I buy? Please keep in mind I'm not looking for the complete professional detail look, just as good as I can get it on my own. Please recommend products both for prep and ones to lay on the final shine. Thanks.

deep polish - Opt. Polish via PC

finishing polish - Jeffs Werkstatt Prime

Sealant - Jeff Werkstatt Acrylic Jett

Wax - Poorboys Natty's

Thats cheaper variation of what i have on my cars...

as far as waxes go...you could stop by your local harley davidson store and pick up the S100 wax n shine ehancing cleanser (paint cleaner)...S100 is basically the same brand as P21S...S100 wax runs for about 15 bucks and SEC runs for around 9...both products will make your white car look really good

Try Nattys Blue, for a contrasting wax color. But since you should apply waxes very thin, it doesn't really make much difference what color the wax is. The coat is so thin, you can't really tell what color it is once it's spread on the paint.

Yeah, exactly. I've used Mothers red paste wax, and it still turns white after it's applied. Those white rides look nice, good work. I'll pick up some new stuff soon.

there's a white forrester I just got done looking at in the click and brag section. his process involved optimum polish followed by optimum car wax. for such a simple procedure, the truck looked amazing!

TFin what are you using in the Mothers line? The Three step cleaner/polish/wax is a pretty good system. If that is not preping your car well then I would suggest getting a PC and use the mothers Power polish to prep your paint. I personally like the Reflection as a sealant better then the Carnuba wax because it last longer. Another product you might want to try is the Meguiars #2 fine cut cleaner which can be found at Kragen is also a good prep product fopr tough to clean paint.

I used the Carnauba Cleaner Paste Wax (its red, in a tin), followed by their 100% Pure Carnuaba Liquid Wax. I had some water spots and oxidation that the cleaner wax really cleaned up well, and the liquid stuff put on a pretty decent shine. I just know it can get better.

So that 1,2,3 kit they sell is decent? Hmm. I was looking at that, but didn't know if it was just a gimmick. I may have to try it out. I'm also going to look into the Optimum stuff. Mothers is fairly expensive around here, and I could probably find better products online for about the same price.

I applied the paste wax with a craftsman buffer, and their bonnets. I was fairly impressed with it. I've never used a PC, so I have nothing to compare it to. It did remove some of the swirl marks in the paint. I did the liquid wax by hand, and it came out well. What product would you recommend for super tiny swirl marks to be removed? Scratch X?

Thanks guys.

Best place to buy those products online?

You think a good dawn wash, claybar, optimum polish and optimum wax would give me the results I'm looking for?

I noticed that Wax is just a spray on, that still gives me the same protection I'm looking for? Sorry, just my nature to doubt things until I've used them. I'm sure it will work fine.

Thanks.

I've just realized about all of the high end products talked about here can be found on amazon.com for pretty good prices.

For my white car, what do you guys recommend? I know there's a million different combos. So far I've heard Optimum and Klasse. What would be the best products and procedure for me? I need both a polisher and protectant.

Thanks guys.

Cool, thanks.

I'm thinking about buying the Optimum Polish, Klasse AIO, followed by the Optimium Spray Wax as an LSP. Good/bad? I can pick up the claybar locally.

I have no experience with them just with what I've listed (they worked so I quite looking). But all those products you want can be had at Autogeek.net and if you can hold off on your order I'm sure the sales will begine for Christmas ;) sales+discounts=$$ left for more spending :D

Yeah, I'll do that. I've been reading some of the articles on autogeek.net and checking out their products.

If someone could give me a final yes/no on those 3 products I listed above that would be great. I would like to order them and get them on my car before winter hits.

You guys have been great, thanks. :D

Bottom line is that you have to prep it correctly or all these products wont produce results. Forget Dawn, I would use a 50/50 mix of Iso Alcohol and water and clay bar the crap out of that thing. Grab some plastic wrap to test the surface by just laying the wrap on the surface and moving it with your hand. If you dont feel any bumps, move on to the next section. Very important that you have a good, clean working surface...

Agreed. Wash it throroughly (Dawn is unnecessary) and clay the vehicle very well. Then polish it (I'd recommend getting a PC), use a paint cleaner like AIO, and then add a sealant. My favorites for white:

Cleaners:

AIO or GEPC (both available at Autogeek)

Sealants:

UPP or Wolfgang (also both available at Autogeek)

Waxes:

Nattys or Paste Glaz (Nattys is available at Autogeek, but Paste Glaz is discontinued. Check out MaxWax though...that's supposed to be very similar to Paste Glaz.)
