White Acura - Need advice

I've finally talked my son into bringing his white Acura over for detailing next week. My goal is to 1) really impress him with how spectacular his car can look so he 2) will stop saying, "Get a life, Dad." But I've never done a white car.

The car is six years old and looks pretty good, but has never been detailed; waxed, maybe, but not in the last nine months; and is not garaged. I want to finish with a durable sealant such as Zaino or Klasse or maybe Einszett Glanz Wax (Poorboy's EX?) because I can't assume he will wax it regularly. (The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.)

My thoughts are to start with DACP with a yellow cutting pad after washing and claying.

What would be a good, less agressive follow-up polish for white?

And then a glaze, or something like GEPC? Would this step even make sense when it will be followed by a synthetic?

And finally, what would be the best finishing sealant for a white car?

I follow up DACP with #9 on my white car. As a sealant I have really enjoyed Klasse, Platinum, and Blackfire. I'm not a fan of Zaino on white but that seems to be a favorite of a lot of people too. I don't think you can really go wrong with any sealant you choose. White doesn't really get more reflective so its hard to split hairs with sealants. They are all pretty equally pleasing to most people.

I was sort of under the same impression. I replaced FI-II with DACP in my routine and I thought FI-III was at least on the same level as FI-II.

Bruce, I too have a white car, Mine's Diamond Pearl white though. And here's a Step I plan on doing on my car, there's 2 versions 1st one will be the longer one for that ultimate shine (I Hope) and the 2nd one for a quicky (atleast for an Autopian)

1) Claybar

2) DACP

3) 3M FCRC on areas that needs it

4) Menzerna IP

5) Menzerna FP (makes the surface look like glass)

6) Meguiar's #7 for that wet glossy look

7) Poorboy EX x3 (I haven't bought this yet, I really don't want to use AIO here cause it'll remove #7)

8) Pinnacle Paste Glaz x3

9) S100 x3

Here's the other step...

1) Claybar

2) DACP

3) Menzerna IP

4) Menzerna FP

5) AIO

6) SG

7) S100

I wonder if AIO will remove the FP?

I am convinced that AIO will remove anything. That's speaking from extensive personal experience and testing.

Ever use just Klasse SG without using AIO?

Just a question about your process OUCH - Isn't the Menzerna IP a compound that is stronget than DACP? If so, wouldn't DACP follow the Menzerna and not preceed it? I don't know, I'm just asking. I JUST bought the Menzerna thinking I would use it as a first step compound. I already own DACP. Are the two the same? Did I essentially buy the same product?

Input anyone? :nixweiss (oops, didn't mean to hijack the thread  )

I also had been under the impression that FI-II, DACP and PIII-MG were roughly equivilant in abrasive power. I fooled around a bit with all of them (PC, yellow cutting pad, 6), and I now believe that PIII-MG is clearly less abrasive than DACP. FI-II is probably somewhere in between, maybe closer to DACP.

I now like to start with DACP instead of FI-II, and follow it with something milder with a white pad, even if I can't see any hazing. PI-III MG and Einszett Paint Polish are good for that, probably IP as well, although I have not tried it. And the 3M and Meg swirl removers.

FP is the icing on the cake. Low cutting, no additives, just pure shiny smoothness. I'm intrigued with thomasfl's use of AIO/UPP on the white car if I can get my hands on some UPP. This would mean following FP directly with AIO since the AIO would no doubt remove anything a glaze or swirl remover would leave behind on the paint.

Ouch, I also found DACP to be stronger than 3M FCRC. If areas still need work after DACP, go over them again with DACP. Swirls or hazing caused by the DACP, if any, will be taken care of by the two Menzerna polishes.

AIO won't remove FP because, supposedly, FP doesn't leave oils or fillers behind. There is nothing to remove.

Spilchy, I've been looking for the strongest polish I can find that will work with a PC. So far it seems to be DACP, but I've never tried IP. If IP is more abrasive than DACP, I would be very interested in it.

In my experience DACP is more abrasive than IP, cause when I used IP on my car there were some swirls that it wasn't able to remove that DACP easily could. That's why I think it should proceed DACP.

Bruce thanks for the info I think I'll have to test FCRC again and compare it to DACP cause when I was using DACP there were some scratches that it wasn't able to remove that FCRC rounded off without a problem.
