Which detailing products have disappointed you?

Meguiar's Quik Suds: thin suds. Lots of suds but very thin. It was able to clean the car well, sheets water very well and the packaging makes it very portable. I just can't get past the thin suds.

Purple Passion WW drying towels: nowhere nearly as good as Sonus drying WW. Almost turned me off on WWs and stick to Absorber.

gearhead,

No, I didn't use the liquid. The paste is pretty lifeless initially after application. I use a QD to improve it. It is better looking the following day. I'm not saying that I hate it nor am I saying that it didn't impress me. I just like the Klasse twins much better on my sapphire blue metallic paint. I'll have to see how it does on other colors. I also have the same reaction to S100 wax on my paint (actually i hate it) but on silver, it is the best I've seen.

VLRP is really flat on tires. The pics on my gallery show some sheen but it is really flat black. I just happen to like some sheen so I prefer 303, Vinylex or NXT TP on my tires. VLRP is awesome on interiors but in the end, I prefer 303. Again, just wanted a tad more sheen. I wish I didn't give away my bottle of VLRP because it is outstanding on restoring faded plastic and vinyl on my old Land Cruiser.

Haven't tried VLRP on tires, too $$ for a small bottle but it did remove a pen ink mark on leather upholstery that Lexol cleaner couldn't get out. For tires I like PB Bold n Bright, nice sheen (more than 303) and decent durability.

One more less than satisfying item, the yellow unbranded clay that was sold on Autopia a few months ago. Could still feel some deposits on my paint after using. Went over the area again with Clay Magic--felt it pull up a little more 'gunk' and then paint felt like glass. Nice medium non-sticky consistency though, may just have been too mild for my purposes.

Think about the responses to this thread - some get great results and LOVE the way a product works. Others get entirely different results with the same products.

This is why "What is the best..." and "What should I use..." threads should be taken with a really large grain of salt - there is no right answer.

Good points. For example, I really like certain products, but not on my black car. I really haven't found a sealant that looks good to me on black. They all look too bright. Make the car silver or pearl and I am singing a different tune. ;)
