Where's DavidB

I guess what is troubling to me is that this "new owner" has had 8 months to make some kind of announcement. Why are they still anonymous?????

I'm hoping it will all make sence once this whole issue surffaced?

Maybe it's just not that big a deal. The new "admin" has stated that the intent is to keep Autopia as it was. Since this place is DavidB's "child", I have some confidence that he wouldn't turn it over to someone who would wreck it. I don't see the Mods panicking, either, which would seem to further the idea that no big changes are afoot.

One can only hope. :spot

Let me see if I can get this right.

You get a time out here for personally attacking me.

Yesterday I get a PM from you on another forum asking why I hate you.

I place you on my ignore list on that forum.

I guess you need attention, so you come back here to start trouble.

Welcome to my ignore list here. :doh

Autopia was probably sold to Chemical Guys (CG) since, as we know everything is just rebottled CG products...;)

that sir is classic! :) but then that brings up the whole warner chemical vs. adams and who really is who in this whole thing....

So this is going to become a rebottled Adam's forum?? (I mean a rebottled version of the Adam's forum--presuming that there is an Adam's forum)

Lol, you guys are blowing this one up, but it's entertaining. I'm also curious about the current ownership. I would assume it's taken over by an individual who's affiliated with a supply company, but also trustworthy enough that David allowed them to invest in the site without fear of them tarnishing it's reputation. They're going to play a hands off role as anyone in their situation would. Think of it as a new cafeteria lady. They make lunch possible for us kiddies by making the food and cleaning up the tables behind the scenes. We may never know the person who makes it happen, but in time we wont care. The only thing that matters is enjoying that sloppy joe and enjoy talking with our friends at one point during the day!

Resume | David Bynon

BRAND CONSULTANT, MAY – NOV 2009, 3D International LLC, Santa Clarita, California

Client acquired AUTOPIA.ORG community as part of a long-term strategy to transition from manufacture and distributor of products for professional car detailers, to manufacturer and direct-to-consumer distributor of car care products for consumers. 3D International retained me to create an eco-friendly car care brand for the car enthusiast market (see hdcarcare.com).

:nervous:

Good find. I suspected it might be 3D because the timing of the stated May 2009 change in ownership seemed to coincide with the HD announcements.

EDIT: Interesting quote from DavidB's home page: "In 1999 I took a slight diversion with my entry into the world of e-commerce and product development in the car care market. Although cars are my passion, I discovered that car care was not."

rjstaaf--feel better now that the uncertainty over ownership is over?

I haven't seen any changes and no one has made it known to me I can't mention the products I use regardless of whether or not they are "sponsored products" so I really don't care who runs the show because it doesn't appear anything different than before.

So someone else owns this place now? Seems the same to me. But it could be why Davidb just quit repling to my PM's back and forth... ehh.. Good for him hopefully whatever his next venture is it brings nothing but happiness to him and his fam. Although I do find it just a bit odd he didn't bother saying goodbye to a community he created if that is the case. Hopefully it wasn't a "force out" situation or anything.

Good Point Setac!

Do you feel the community has been sort of misled in a way? The forum has existed on the foundation that everyone in this community was open about their affiliations and nature of those relationships. The information on the forum would be viewed as compromised otherwise.

If this forum has truly been about the sharing of unbiased info, then one has to wonder how or why this has happened.

I look fwd to 3D taking a major role in the continued prosperity of this forum in the way it was originally intended.

Hmm...misled...kind of...but then, it has always been DavidB's place, and he could always run it the way he wanted. There was always the mist of David's Sonus/Perfect Shine/Ultima affiliation, even if it was known...what would you call it, nepotism? But for the most part, it was pretty unfiltered, so an optimist would say there's no reason to assume it won't continue that way.

The one troublesome event is that one polish thread that abruptly disappeared. Truly, perhaps the only way to insure an unfiltered board is one that is funded by membership fees rather than sponsors and other web-related advertising/sales revenue...but I think there would only be about 100 of us then.

David was a nice guy, but lets not paint him to be an angel, he sure did hype the 3d brand quite a bit before he departed.

Like he hyped every other brand he was associated with previously (Sonus and Ultima). I think the argument that some members have here is that it was known that DavidB was associated with those brands, and for a few hours they didn't know what brand(s) Autopia was associated with now.

As has been said, this place was largely a free-speech zone in those days, and it has been since May, 2009, as well. It's the stated intent of the new owners to keep it that way, so I think everybody should just unbunch their shorts.

Some of you guys are hilarious!! THE SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING!! RUN FOR SHELTER CHICKEN LITTLE!!

Had the news of the sale not come out here would anyone have known it had been sold? Have you noticed any changes in the day to day operation, discussion, or overall feel of the forum? Seems that whoever the new ownership is plans to let business continue as usual.... otherwise you would have noticed changes.

And for the record, we have our own forum to worry about, buying Autopia isn't and never has been on our radar. This is the first I've heard of Dave selling the site as well.
