Where do you buy your oil + filters?

Curious where everyone gets their motor oil and filters from?

I generally stuck with places like AutoZone in the past, but I am hearing you can get Mobile 1 much cheaper from WalMart. AZ charged $30+ for their M1 oil and I think the same thing at Wally is $15-$17, or maybe less (haven't checked yet). Plus AZ charges $12+ for a M1 oil filter! Anybody know of local places where you can get the filters cheaper? Not sure if WalMart carries them...

Thanks,

Mike

I generally get my Mobil 1 oil from Walmart but, Walmart in my area doesn't carry Mobil 1 filters so I usually pick them up at either Autozone or Advance Auto parts.

Same here. Walmart for Mobil 1 and AutoZone or PepBoys for Mobil 1 oil filters. I was able to get the oil filter at PepBoys last time for $9.99. They cost $11.99 at AutoZone

i get mobile one in quartz from wally world. they finally started stocking my wt!

i get my OEM filters from MINI and Honda suppliers. I usually buy several at a time.

I think that is what I'll probably end up doing...going to Wally tonight to pick up the oil and then to Advance or AZ for just the filter. It's a shame WM doesn't carry the M1 filters!

Does anyone know if Costco carries M1 oil? If so, how much? tks

i am not an expert but i have seen tests that give a thumbs down to M1 filters. sorry i don't hv the link and not telling you not to buy them. maybe someone else has a link to the tests.

I don't put any faith in obscure tests where they rarely publish their methods. I have my oil analyzed on a regular basis and I know for a fact I am getting good filtration. This applies for pretty much anything in life. I have a hard time giving negative feedback on products I haven't tried myself....

Don't put too much faith in some obscure online or magazine published tests as most of them do not publish their methodology or who is behind the tests so you rarely know whether they are based on science or marketing.

Instead I prefer to have my used engine oil analyzed on a regular basis to see how my oil and filters are working and how my engine is doing. I use Blackstone Labs but there are plenty of places out there to get your used engine oil analyzed.

Personally, I've been going to my dealer for the last couple years (Ford). They have a 15.95 oil and filter change special for repeat customers. I like the price, but I also like how they check over the rest of the car and keep a good record of all maintenance I am doing if I ever need it later down the road.

I tend to watch for sales... Going to switch to Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic 5w30..

Advanced Auto has a sale going until tomorrow (the 28th) Buy one get one free!

Have used Amsoil and Mobil One, like them both, will see how the Pennzoil does. Far as filters, I stick with AC Delco on the Envoy, the Titan well it's new so I haven't decided yet...

Off topic...but...might want to consider some other oils besides M1. For the price, it can be beat...:)

Well dont leave us hanging--what do you suggest then:nixweiss

Oil filters? OEM oil filters from ebay. If you watch carefully, you can get quantities of 10 or more for dollars less than stealership pricing, shipping included. (Honda & Toyota OEM filters)

Oil? Quaker State @ Walmart or Kragen.

I usually just swing by the dealer and grab a filter. With my discount at all the local dealers, and their convenience (I pass right by Ford and Chev dealers on my way home and I own one of each) it just makes sense. Oil, I buy M1 from Wal Mart, because it's right across the street from work. When you live in Metro Atlanta, you have to strategically plan AROUND traffic if you want to get anything done quickly. :D

I've got my ears open for some suggestions other than M1. I'll be picking some up for my DD today and would gladly put some other form of synth in it.

I get M1 at AZ and filters at The Parts Bin. I don't think Wally World carries the 0W40 M1, but I'm not 100% sure and I don't like shopping there anyway. The only other oil I've used in recent years is Red Line, and that always costs more than M1. My engine builder told me M1 and Red Line are the best he's found for racing engines (he specializes in IT VWs and Spec Miatas), so I haven't strayed from those two. His criterion was bearing life.

I have had no trouble with Pennzoil, Valvoline, or Quaker State synthetics. Like the previos post buy at Advance when they go on sale. Like the Pure One filter from Purolater.

Does WalMart typically carry just the regular M1 synthetic oil, or do they have the Extended Life M1 as well? I have honestly never checked WMT for their oil...I'll probably drop by later today if I can...but I might want the M1 Extended Life...
