Where do you buy your oil + filters?

Does WalMart typically carry just the regular M1 synthetic oil, or do they have the Extended Life M1 as well? I have honestly never checked WMT for their oil...I'll probably drop by later today if I can...but I might want the M1 Extended Life...

WM carries the extended life M1 also. As for filters, don't skimp. get M1, Wix. WM doesn't carry these! There are a couple of other good filters but I can't remember the name, Puralator is NOT one of them.

Don't buy store brand filters regardless of what anyone says. Filter is VERY important!

Thank you very much! I have always used M1 filters, and I'm sure I'll use another one tomorrow. :)

I shop around for the best deals/rebates. Rebates are a pain. Thus, I wait for the Advance Auto BOGO free sale for Pennzoil Platinum.

For filters, my favorite is Napa Gold. I guess Carquest Premium filters are the same (Wix), so I might try them if they are cheaper.

LOL, I would love to see you post this over at Bobistheoilguy.com....

Thats like posting the following on Autopia: "Only use Edge pads, and zaino polishes/sealants everything else is crap."

I think most of the guys over at Bob is the Oil Guy would agree with me on this....

We could go on for days about the "best oils and filters." Bottom line is that ANY dino oil and filter will protect for 3-5k, some going more. Synthetic is simply not needed unless required by the manuf., or if you are running a turbo, etc. Honestly, conventionals have come a LONG way. Heck, you could meet in the middle and run one of the blends, which you can get as low as $2.50 a quart.

Bottom line is, don't necessarily skimp, but don't blow it out buying synthetic because one might think price indicates quality.

I've used GTX, Motorcraft, Formula Shell, QS, and Pennzoil. All give great UOA's in my engine. I am going to try some TropArtic now, at $1.68/qt.!!

It's up to you....just wanted to throw in my two cents.

I agree,

Too many people get caught up on hype or the "I have used xxx and it has been great for me" consensus. Almost all oil and oil filters will do a great job if you use the correct OCI...

There are only so many companies that manufactures oil filters by the way... but that is for another day. :)

Well by all means if some of you guys feel any oil and filter is great and the synthetics and better built filters are all Hype, go for it. I expressed my opinion based on personal experience, I don't mind spending a little more for oil and filters, however I seem to be a minority here.

So I'll end, and stick to my answers with the following, LOL !

Good Luck, Changeling

PS. Someday you will come to realize that regardless of price, Great oil and Filters are extremely cheap, think about it!

I have to diagree with you on this on this one

I have a great deal of money in a few of my engines

and they get nothing but Valv. Racing straight 50W dino oil!

I've been using Amsoil for the better part of 12 yrs now, delivered to my door. using Wix filters from Filter1 DOT com for 5 or 6 yrs. I also do oil analysis 2x yr. this is how I found out about my bad Lower intake manifold gasket problem a couple of months ago. been going almost 10K OCI's in the 01. I haven't gone synth in the 91 yet since a totally new engine was built last yr and I haven't put any real mileage on it. still doing tuning also.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Mobil 1 oil and oil filter are extremely cheap. It costs me a minimum of $40 every time I do an oil change. That's if I do it myself. If I pay labor to have someone else do it, it's more than $50 every time for an oil change.

So why do it do it? Mostly for the piece of mind, especially since I own my car and don't expect to be buying a new one anytime soon. If my car was a lease, I'd go with a cheaper route with some name brand, quality oil and filter.

Mike..I get the M1 Extended at wal mart...I either use a Pure One filter or a Napa Gold which is a Wix filter..both good filters...I use to get the M1 filters but they have changed some...the guys at Bob is the oil guy forum cut a few open and the M1 has changed and lost some quality ..so the pick was Pure one and Wix and Motorcraft as the top replacements...

paul34-what do u drive???

i've used and suggestd for most of my life valvoline, but recently witched to mobil one for my new 07 toyota yaris. istarted off with valvoline and after 5k miles(all oils in car 5w30 syn) it turned brown. after switching to mobil one i don't see much if any dicolouration at 5k. thats why i back mobil one. I use fram filters by the by

Wix=Napa Gold

Mobil Clean 5000 dino oil

My truck gets an oil change 2 times a year sometimes an extra one thrown in if I take a long trip. It dosnt get driven much. I may switch to full synthetic on our '99 Grand Prix since we have been putting alot of miles on it lately.

Been using Mobil1..I grab the 5 qt jugs at WM when they do their 'Rollbacks'..I'll probably look at Pennzoil Platinum since it's cheaper and now Mobil1 has starting using some or all Group III stock.

Purolator filters at Advance..but may start using WalMart's SuperTechs since they are actually very nice filters

Just what I've decided to use after digesting info I've gathered at Bobistheoilguy
