Wheel ShMITT - Mixed Feelings

Hey guys,

I just received my black wheel ShMITT in a few days ago. We've seen a lot of rain this last week, and my wheels were looking pretty bad. I'm extremely anal when it comes to my new car. (2004 BMW 325i) I simply filled a bucket with water and Zaino wash and went to work with the ShMITT.

The pros:

-Cleaned relatively well

-Cut wheel cleaning time considerably

-I've never had such clean tires

The cons:

-The ShMITT is a little too abrasive IMO

-I'm worried about scratching and marring, but I can't say for sure. (Wheels are clear coated)

-It can miss very small spots of brake dust

I wash the car regularly and I don't like to rely on wheel cleaners. (I'm convinced they will compromise the clear coat eventually) I would buy this product again and continue to use it until I notice any marring or scratching. I'd also be willing to recommend this product to other people. Please feel free to chime in and tell me your opinions. Good luck!

P.S. - I have a quick question. I think I may be crazy, but it seems like my stock wheels have gotten a bit "duller" than they used to be. Any ideas?

Thank you very much for your honest review, I have a couple White wash Shmitts and an interior white/yellow combo one as well that I just ordered today. I was going to order the wheel one but my concern was also with the abrisiveness. Perhaps maybe another white one could work if designated as a wheel Shmitt only :nixweiss Thanks again for sharing, by the way where are you at in Michigan?

I think if you didn't want to use the wheel ShMitt on your wheels a better alternative would be the yellow/white interior ShMitt. It's much softer than the black wheel ShMitt, but has a little more bite than the white ShMitt which would be a plus IMO for wheels.

Also, thanks to the OP for your review. I have a wheel ShMitt, but I haven't had the chance to use it. So, I really appreciate your insights.

It seems a lot of the concerns people report about the ShMitt are more mental than experiental. It's a very new and different product. So, I can totally understand people's apprehension. I was nervous about using my wash ShMitt, but after many uses I can see it's a great product. I'm excited to try the wheel ShMitt as well.

Thanks for the info I may have to place another order :) Im really excited to get my hands on the interior Shmitt, it will be a great detailing tool rather than using small microfiber applicators.

Thanks for your replies guys! I'm going to order a couple different Shmitts. (Interior and wash).

Take care!

(Joshua, I'm located in Grand Rapids, not too far from you!)

I haven't used the interior ShMitt to apply protectant or leather conditioner. However, I can say it makes really short work of scrubbing leather/vinyl. Leather seats get cleaned in a blink. It's really great.

I also saw a post where someone mentioned they use it to scrub carpet but I haven't tried that yet either.

Cool, I'm looking forward to trying that out on my A4. Since I got my new car, I havn't really given it the TLC it needs.

Can't comment on the shmitt, but I can tell you that factory clear coated wheels (should) stand up to wheel cleaners without a problem. I used Eagle One A2Z on several cars, including my IS350, and I've never had a single problem with it dulling wheels. A2Z is pretty darn strong, so if you're using Zaino car wash soap and think it's contributing to paint/clear dulling on your Bimmer stock wheels, there's a real problem there.

Haha. I think you may be right. I'm just paranoid. I don't have so much as a scratch or swirl on that car. I'll post up some good pictures in the C&B after she gets a bath.
