What's your full time / part time job?

Two of the sweetest words in the English language! Congrats. I retired in March.:drool5:

Commendable! I've been known to be a student of the Word myself.

I think this is one of the reason the character on this forum is top notch. I try to read my bible every day.

I run a program in Detroit for young adults aging out of the foster care system. We help with employment, education and job training services along with a host of other critical 'life-skills' related stuff. Unfortunately, I just had to give myself and my staff lay-off notices last week as the State seems not to want to continue this valuable program. The ironic thing is that if someone doesn't have any hope, any skills/education and anywhere to go that supports them, what usually happens to them and how much does that usually cost?

Anyways, I had a great reply to this letter-writing campaign that I started and I've heard that there's some talk about re-funding the program. Now if it can only happen before October 30th!

I also detail anywhere from 3-10 cars every spring/summer when I can find the time around work and family stuff...but I don't even think I'd consider that part-time.

What do you do for a living?

The day job (or night), Air Traffic Controller at Club Fed. Part time Pilot/Flight Instructor, occasional detailer and full time motorcycle bum. Been eligible to check out early for 2 years but I figure about 20 more months of hanging out in dark rooms keeping blips from bouncing off each other until every day becomes Saturday. Then it's time in the Garage Mahal when I'm not trying to find out where every two-lane highway in North America takes me.

I am a Project Engineer for the Division of Capital Asset Management with the Commonewealth of Massachusetts. We are responsible for the construction of all state facilities (ie. courts, prisons, state police facilities, and state and community colleges). So pretty much I do construction management.

That was my specialty also... I've done construction planning, scheduling, and cost control since 1976.:out:

Just retired this July after nearly 50 years. I was a union rep the last 23 years with the balance in jobbing shops as a fixture builder. Miss the job, but with the state of the automobile industry the last few years I couldn't take much more. Just too many concessions and shop closings.

Work for a company that does Directv work. Installs, upgrades, and service calls. Official title is Technician. Dont work 100% for Directv but I get free tv though.

CNC Machine Operator - manufacturing piston rings for automotive and heavy duty diesel engines. All you guys talking about retirement..............I only have about an 30+ years.:White Horse:

A&P Mechanic for Delta for 18 yrs now. For the past 2 years working on the engine troubleshooting crew. I'm fortunate to work the w/e midnight crew, long hours but I get 4 days off to detail. When detailing gets busy, I put in 60-70 hours a week doing both.

I am the credit / collections manager for a mid sized company during the week (8-5). After a week's worth of sob stories, excuses form people for not being able to pay, broken promises, and outright lies, it is fun to get in the garage and take some stress out on some swirls.

My wife and I also foster dogs that have health issues, behavioral issues, have been victims of neglect, or abandoned. Between our full time jobs, the dogs, and my detailing business, we stay pretty busy.

whoa! 50 years! I take my hat of to you! :notworthy: :notworthy:

Lets see 2 years in the sugar cane fields, 20 years in the military (74-94....recall for 9/11), 14 years in paint sales, and now I'm in one of the best jobs around! Don't forget also a part time detailer since the 70's.

My hat off to you. Fifty years , thats fantastic. I'm a union shop steward at the trucking company I drive for and serve about 130 men. Just had a 15% give-back and a 18 month pension relief given to try and keep the company afloat. I know what you went thru and you have my respect.
