What to protect expensive multi-spoke wheels with? (CCW content)

The problem I have with trying to spot correct a polished rim that is not cleared, is the more you try to get out one spot, it looks different than the others. I would take the whole wheel to a wheel shop and/or a metal shop that has got big fluffy rotary pads where they can go around and around the wheel until it looks uniform. Shouldn`t be more than 25-30 bucks. And then think about powder coating the wheels in clear like Forgeline does.....it works perfect.
 
Yeah I’ll see after this summer how they are.

The centres again, are polished.

I did not read all the response. Is the lip uncoated polished ?

Here`s my take if it is. the shine when buffed on uncoated polished unparallels. I`ve tried many a products and IMO, on unpolished, any product takes it down 2 nothches. If the outer halves are clear coated, then just coat it all the way
 
The lip is just bare polished aluminium. No clear.

I attempted to take out the fine finishing marks that were left over from them assembling it and I made it worse lol.

I’ve coated two of them so far with Sonax ceramic coating. I’ll do the other two this weekend if I have time.

While I [fooled] around my tube of GlossCoat went bad :rolleyes: and now I gotta find something new that I can get right the first time.

I believe back in 1985, I bought a beautifully set up, lowered CRX for my daughter and it had BBS wheels.
I polished them up with a kit like this one from Eastwood and they looked stunning..
Not sure of the compounds in this kit, though...
Believe I used a lot of Jewelers Rouge with the round, pointed, buffing cone on an air powered hand held grinder, and they came out fabulous..
Since they were not coated back then, I had to keep up on them, but they lasted a long time between re polishing..

Accumulator- explain what accumulator proof is Bahahaha ?

It is very easy to use that’s for sure. Also, don’t misjudge it’s power. I should have worn gloves that they provided with the kit. This stuff makes your hands dry and very hard to get off.

Hopefully it’s a tell tale sign ?

The good thing about Sonax is that all of their products are user friendly.

The coating is one of them. It also performs better than gloss coat. That’s my personal experience. It’s a 2 part system. The only downside is the cost for the amount included.

The Guz- Ah, OK...I was getting years out of the GlossCoat (eh, just that vehicle, limited use and it`s really easy on the wheels especially with drums on the rear) so if the Sonax is even better that`ll be great. I`ll scope out your review over there when it gets close to the time I`ll do it; might just wait until next winter, only places that actually *need* coated are where the old weights were, the rest of the wheels are still 100% fine and hey..it`s the Tahoe.

Heh heh, sure...and I`m not just being a smart-[aleck], but rather being a bit specific about how user-friendly it is.

Accumulator-proof is a loooong way from "fool/idiot-proof" as I`m neither. But I won`t use anything that could easily make for more work and I refuse to struggle to "master" any product.

Accumulator-proof = A smart person with good thinking skills and coordination can use it right the first time, every time. (Note that I consider "a polisher with M105 on its pad" to be in this category, but *not* a "full rinseless wash", which isn`t even close to being Accumulator-proof.)

Detailing the way I do it, with the stuff I use, just isn`t gonna go haywire and I`m 100% OK with my results. I can work fast without any worries at all because I don`t make the kind of mistakes that could cause issues...*with what I use*. If I use something else, it can`t make things harder or start me up another significant learning curve.

E.g., I won`t use a coating on the body proper as I`m not gonna worry about noticing a tiny high-spot or somesuch. I worry that I might not notice some minute flaw until six weeks later under some weird condition, and then I`d have to redo it. Meanwhile, I could`ve just used FK1000P, which is dead-nuts simple to use and is 100% satisfactory to me.
 
Yea this stuff is pretty easy to use my friend. I’ll be doing the other two wheels today. And hopefully by Sunday, I’ll have them done and done.

The worst part is still yet to come: me correcting the mess I made on the lips.

Not to be Mr. Negativity, but I`d wonder if the "worst part" will be keeping them nice forever...sure was easy to mess `em up already, and you haven`t even been using them yet!
 
No negativity at all my friend. We chose this OCD hobby. It’s bound to have it’s rough roads.

I’ve neglected these wheels tho- they’re just sitting in my hallway collecting dust.

Two are coated. The one needs correcting. Then the other two need their coatings and that’s it.

They cannot go on the car till end of June, realistically. So no rush.

At least you`re just neglecting a set of wheels...I have *cars* that`re just sitting unused for years :o
