What ever happened to OCW/Optimum rave

I used OCW for the first this weekend and liked it. I was wondering if there was any point in layering it? Also, I polished the car first with Poli-Seal and the OCW just kind of got pushed around with the MF when trying to wipe it off. I ended up using one towel to spread it around after spraying and another towel to wipe the excess off (I also sprayed a lot less than I did the first time :o ). Does this sound normal?

Finally - I read somewhere about topping OCW with Opti-Seal for added durability so tried that. It seemed to mute the look a little. Anyone else have experience with this?

I ask this question.

Where would detailing products be today if all of the Optimum products didn't come along?

Sticky gummy dusty.

FWIW, OCW is being reformulated for easier use and more durability. It has been on the market 5 years now and Dave at Optimum wants to see if there is room for improvement. I have a small test bottle of a new version (don't know if is THE new version) that goes on and off QD easy. Not sure about durability because I've only had it a couple of weeks.

That's great about the durability. I'm getting 2-3 months of beading out of OCW. I dont know how it could get any easier to use.

That might be stretching things a little, don't you think? I think the detailing industry would have muddled along somehow . . .

I would say so, I bet half the detailers in the country do not know what Optimum is...There are a lot of detailers out there that dont check out this forum.

Thats a statement !! .... although a damn good product its far from the best I have . I've never thought the shine , depth and durability were something special. Ok yes for a spray wax , but with stuff that has been brought to the forefront like JW stuff and even AW in spray wax form I think Optimum Car Wax is a little behind. Maybe the new formula will kick some booty , who knows.

i think OCW is a great product...just that it has been surpassed by many of its competitors...durability is definitely and issue with OCW...but to be honest most spray on products lack durability...my personal fave is CG Blitz....much easier to use and looks wet...

Exactly how do you use and apply CG blitz? I was told to spray it on a pad wipe it on, let it haze and then buff off. Is this correct or is there an easier method to use with blitz.

i dont see how anything could be easier than spraying it on and wiping it off ... i have yet to try anything other than OCW tho.. so i cant really speak at length.

I still use it quite a bit. Nothing is easier than using OP or Poliseal then a OCW cleanup. Most times it melts the polish residue right off.

Poliseal + Optiseal = Perfect Detailer's Setup. Use OCW within the Hour of Opti Seal to take any smudges/streaks.

The biggest complaint I've had with the original OCW that it lacked a certain immediacy. It looked good after curing but the initial look was lacking something. This could be remedied using a DA when applying the OCW, because the carnauba in it gets more gloss with the machine application, but we are using a spray product because of its ease, right?

For me OCW performed very well, especially layered. It has a great operation window (0°C - 40°C for me), and it provides a handsome look.

However, the beading characteristics and the slickness were two further points where I felt that the product could have been improved. The slickness was reasonable but nothing to write home about, and the beading was a bit strange. It beaded with small quite irregular beads, but somehow I love the more uniform, tall beading (to tell the truth, I love the unprotected full-surface sheeting the best, because this gives a totally spot-free finish).

Now Optimum included me as a beta tester and a batch of the OCW II is sitting here on my desk. After trying it a few times, I can say that all the mentioned "problems" were issued. It looks wetter than the original, more hydrophobic, significantly slicker and about as easy to apply. I need more experience with it to tell how it looks on an unprepped/poorly prepped surface (to see the immediacy of the look), but on Menzerna PO85RE5-, Poli-Seal-, Scholl Concepts S40-prepped finishes it looks excellent. Initial slickness & appearance is also outstanding and after curing it will be even better.

Its beading characteritics is also improved. It produces wonderful little pearls now, with highly optimized contact angles. I'll experiment a lot more to find out more on its compatibility, layerability, cooperation with machines and of course, durability.

Scottwax is a beta tester too, so he can chime in with his experiences as well.

PS: I waxed the two 1:18 model cars on my desk with it and I often find myself "wiping & dusting" them with a thin suede MF to feel the great slickness... Does that say something? :D
