What do you use to remove old wax and sealant?

The other day while cleaning the inside of my truck instead of grabbing my Eimann Fabrik spot remover I grabbed the HI Intensity cleaner and sprayed a little bit on my cloth seat and wiped.

Here's my question: the part of the seat that got the ef hi on it is a little bit lighter than the rest. Did the color run out of the fabric? Or did it just dissolve the scotchguard off the seat? I'm curious as it's not really that noticeable but kind of bugs me I guess. In a way it looks like when you vacuum a carpet and you get those lines in it if you know what I mean where one patch might be lighter than the next. I wonder if maybe I bought some 303 fabric guard and gave it the once over if that would fix it.
All your help is appreciated.

It could be many things. Color fastness could have been weakened, the fabric guard was likely removed and also (and this may be the best answer) dirt was removed from all the fibers and in between the weave. These will all alter the look of the fabric.

If you are unhappy with the result I would discontinue use. But my experience with EF has been positive and I have never had a color problem.

Fabric guards generally darken the fabric a bit. If you want to re-spray the cleaned area it may blend back into the surrounding area.

As Brad mentioned, I'm going with the dirt theory. Though before reapplying the fabric protectant, I'd make sure to clean those seats with something meant for cleaning cloth upholstery. No sense in sealing in dirt if that was your problem.

maybe since you cleaned it, it is clean and the other parts aren't?

I would check an "inconspicuous" spot and see if you can repeat the experiment in order to isolate that it was EF that did it.

I see a lot of abbreviations being thrown around and I was wondering what everyone uses to wash cars before they intend on polishing as apposed to just washing with a gentle shampoo?

Also, I've read about, i think its rubbing alcohol being diluted and used to wipe down the surface either before or during polishing?

Thanks

You can wash with Dawn before polishing. An IPA wipe down is used after polishing to rid the paint from any polishing oils left behind.

Or you can use a citrus based shampoo. Another option is to spray down your car with P21S TAW or another all purpose cleaner, and let it dwell. Then rince it off before you begin your 2BM wash process.
