I would love for you to post after you've owned the Jeep for 30 days to see what you think. I've heard that the TJ is a much better road going truck than all of the previous Jeeps.
I think the Jeep is a terrific fun car. When I was about 18 I bought a 90 Wrangler 6.0 5 spd, but I lived in a rural area and would jump offroad at least once a week, sometimes taking the power line trails home from work just for fun. I remember having about 5 kids piled in the jeep, top down, doors off, throwing mud down the sides and all over everybody and everybody just laughing and having a great time (even the girls!)
Unfortunately I also remember being caught with the top off in the rain, freezing in the winter (except for my feet, which were always sweaty since that's where the heat blew), the deafening noise above 55 MPH, the brick like aerodynamics and incumbent fuel economy, the time delay handling on the highway, the 3 stereos stolen out of it, and that beastly clutch and shifter that was no fun in city traffic. I had to get rid of it when I moved into the city for college. It's just not a city car, it's like having a Laborador in a studio apartment. It was the worst of all worlds there: nowhere to offroad, stop and go traffic, especially on campus, and long highway commutes home.
PS: I almost forgot the most fun I ever had in the Jeep (no, not that, that's what the Caprice is for). There was this incredibly tall 2 lane bridge where I lived. I guess they were going to build a car plant, so they built this 140 ft high bridge over a mile long. Anyway, I would get a girl in the Jeep during the summer, so I almost always had the top and doors off, and when we hit the top of the bridge, I would turn off the lights and shut off the Jeep and either stop or just coast. I would generally leave my foot on the brake though, so people behind me could see me, and I could really see either direction so would have plenty of advance warning if somebody was coming. It was so incredibly high and quiet, and when you stopped you could feel the bridge swaying. Also, the side walls on the bridge couldn't have been more than 5 feet high, so up in the Jeep with the doors off, you really felt like you were hanging over the edge. Always had a good effect on the ladies. I think it convinced them I was more adventurous than I really was.
