What do you all think? Thinking about switching vehicles

True Blue- I do like the car, don't get me wrong. I would just rather pay for something that I would get more use out of. The Jeep fits my lifestyle more. The only time I drive the stang is when the weather is nice and I can drop the top. Its gettin kinda of old. Its a tough decision, I haven't stopped thinking about it. There is alot of Pros and Cons.

Congrats! :xyxthumbs Details, pics!

I am planning to buy a Jeep Wranger in addition to my other cars. Basically I want go 4 wheeling with it and use it as another "fun" car and like you, I want a convertible 4X4. I've decided that it would be better to wait until I can afford to spring for it without selling one of my cars. I can actually use another car for the winter. I look forward to exploring off road with the Jeep. Off road is definitely where I want to be with a Jeep.

I would've said to buy the Jeep in addition to the Stang but you didn't seem to feel attached to your Mustang. If you don't like the Jeep you can always sell it later. Heck, I'll buy it from you. :D

Good luck and have fun!

05 TJ Unlimited

4.0L, 6spd Transmission

Color: Light Khaki

No pics with the top up right now just down. So Far I love it, no regrets. Handles suprisingly well. Alot of fun with the top down. More air circulation than the Stang.

Nice! I think you made the right choice. The LJ will be great for a daily driver. Now all you need to do is slap some aromor and a winch on it and wheel the living daylights out of it! :bounce

:xyxthumbs  Very nice! I like the color and you have the exact engine/tranny combo I want. The Unlimited has more room and there's something to be said for that.

I like seeing it top down! :D

I figure in a few years I'll be in a position to buy one. Perhaps they'll come out with an all new model and I can get a good deal on a TJ. :)

Hope you enjoy it. Good luck and have fun! :spot

Well atleast its not a GM product:p !

Looks good man:xyxthumbs

But I will even miss the Stang:( As a former owner of three and a Ford type family who are Ford/ Mustang fanatics, I hope somebody who takes care of it gets it plus they already have some sweet shine from it:D !

looks nice, i was looking at wranglers a while ago. i though they were kinda over priced for what you get, but they do hold resale value better than the other jeep models

and as far as the discussion between the wrangler and the wrangler rubicon package is basically the transfercase, axles, and lockers

tc

uses a 241J t-case with 4:1 low gear, hardened internals, and a slip yoke eliminator

rather than the 231 t-case with 2.7:1 low gear and a slip yoke

front axle

locked "dana 44". i put d44 in quotes because it just uses a D44 centersection and D30 tubes and outers. so basically it is NO stronger than the std D30 axle

rear axle

uses a locked D44 axle rather than the std D35

although the limited slip D44 is an option on all wranglers

has 4.11 gears, also an option on regular wranglers

lockers

push button activated lockers front and rear, they are "ok" lockers

not the most bombproof however

the tires are simple 31" GY MTR's available at any tire store for ~$180ea

also has fancy 17" wheels and other appearace junk

I to hope someone gets it who will take care of it. I really did baby that car. That car only seen rain a few times in two years and they are getting a damn near flawless finish as far as the paint goes.

Jeeper- I figured the price was mainly tied up in the under carriage:D

I would love for you to post after you've owned the Jeep for 30 days to see what you think. I've heard that the TJ is a much better road going truck than all of the previous Jeeps.

I think the Jeep is a terrific fun car. When I was about 18 I bought a 90 Wrangler 6.0 5 spd, but I lived in a rural area and would jump offroad at least once a week, sometimes taking the power line trails home from work just for fun. I remember having about 5 kids piled in the jeep, top down, doors off, throwing mud down the sides and all over everybody and everybody just laughing and having a great time (even the girls!)

Unfortunately I also remember being caught with the top off in the rain, freezing in the winter (except for my feet, which were always sweaty since that's where the heat blew), the deafening noise above 55 MPH, the brick like aerodynamics and incumbent fuel economy, the time delay handling on the highway, the 3 stereos stolen out of it, and that beastly clutch and shifter that was no fun in city traffic. I had to get rid of it when I moved into the city for college. It's just not a city car, it's like having a Laborador in a studio apartment. It was the worst of all worlds there: nowhere to offroad, stop and go traffic, especially on campus, and long highway commutes home.

PS: I almost forgot the most fun I ever had in the Jeep (no, not that, that's what the Caprice is for). There was this incredibly tall 2 lane bridge where I lived. I guess they were going to build a car plant, so they built this 140 ft high bridge over a mile long. Anyway, I would get a girl in the Jeep during the summer, so I almost always had the top and doors off, and when we hit the top of the bridge, I would turn off the lights and shut off the Jeep and either stop or just coast. I would generally leave my foot on the brake though, so people behind me could see me, and I could really see either direction so would have plenty of advance warning if somebody was coming. It was so incredibly high and quiet, and when you stopped you could feel the bridge swaying. Also, the side walls on the bridge couldn't have been more than 5 feet high, so up in the Jeep with the doors off, you really felt like you were hanging over the edge. Always had a good effect on the ladies. I think it convinced them I was more adventurous than I really was.

Guy1138- well I have had the Jeep for about 6 weeks now, and so far I love it. I love driving it with the top down. I haven't had the doors off yet. I waiting on my door removal tool that claims not to chip paint on the bolts. I guess thats the autopian in me :). I opted for the Unlimited, it gives you 15 inches of extra cargo space and because of the slightly longer wheel base it rides a whole lot smoother. You are right, it definitly is not aero-dynamic and thay smack every bug on the highway. They are not fast and the soft top models flap in the wind when they are up as well. For some reason the flaws don't even matter when your driving it. When I'm driving my truck or the 4runner, I'm thinking, damn I wish I was in the Jeep.

Its a Jeep thing I guess. :)
