Here are a few good kits..The only thing your missing out on by not buying it from like Best Buy or somewhere is the Warranty. I paid an additional $130 for a 4 year warranty on my NikonD60 and Lenses...

Kit 1 D3000

Kit 2 Nikon D60

Buy it with Amex or Mastercard and the warranty will be doubled for free (as long as it is not refurb). I will say this, Amex is much easier to deal with on warranty claims. If you want more, you can grab a Mack warranty for a lot less than Best Buy. Don't listen to me though, I hate Best Buy.

So did you find another one then?

I just looked at my buddies new Nikon D3000 and I really wasn't very impressed with the UI and the body looks cheap. I'm sure once you get used to how things are laid out it's fine but I really like the way my XSi is.

I thought Canons had the poorer user interface and I was a long time Canon fan.

It really does not matter since either camera can do better than most people using them. The best test is to use both and decide which one feels best for you. Now, many buying cameras have little clue what do when not in P or A mode so it often it gets down to who talks to them last.

It could just be that I'm used to mine too but I like having all the buttons (ISO, WB...) on the body so that and I don't have to navigate through the LCD to execute a certain function.

I have a D90 so I am used to basically having every function accessible with one button. It even has a button to program it to anything you want. From my experience, it was not until Canon shipped recent cameras they had similar access.

From Ken Rockwell's site...
