What are your winter prep plans?

It seems a little early to be thinking about how you will prep your vehicle for winter, but the snow fell early last year and it doesn't hurt to be early!

What are you're plans to prepare your car for the cold weather, salt and sand covered roads, plus the difficulty in washing all that grime off?

Here is my plan:

Thorough wash, including engine bay.
Wheels will have three coats of Collinite 845 and my tired I am not worried about as I will be changing then soon.
The paint will get an IronX treatment along with a nice claying. Some Wolfgang Paintwork Polish Enhancer with a black pad on my Porter Cable 7424XP will remove the previous LSP's and provide a clean surface for my next step. I will be applying two coats of Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant followed by Collinite 845.

I might add some protection to the glass as well.

After all this work ahead of me, I need to Opti-Coat asap!

So what are your plans for winter prep?

Winter prep..... The most dreaded thing ever.....

For me it will not be to bad this year it don't think.

Truck: already has OG on it. So just some Permanon or ReLoad and it will be good. Winter washes will be in a "heated" garage, so will most likely be std. Or rinseless with ONR.

Wife's car: has CQ on the paint and OG on the wheels. Prep and washing will be the same as the truck.

My car: wash, clay, IronX. Werkstat Prime Strong, Acrylic Jett x2or3. Topping with Sonus Acrlic Glanz after washes as desired.

But after using BFCS and WGLS I may choose to use one of these on top of the werkstat combo.

My truck is Opti-Coated so I feel sort of lost this winter. lol

I did the rear wheel wells with Ultima Tire & Trim Guard, hope that keeps the snow chunks from sticking so much. I was wondering if I should try something different up front or stick with the Ultima there too. Maybe Meguiar's Hyper Dressing.

Just got new tires put on today so I guess I'm ready for the blizzard!

Oh might do a quick coat of Autoglym SRP on the snow blower tomorrow. :D

Did my prep last weekend since it was nice and we don't have really any of those days left here. I washed, clayed, polished the summers micro marks and swirls out and then put on 2 coats of Finish Kare FK1000P high temp wax for the LSP. We got hit with well over a foot of snow Thursday and yesterday and it definitely does the job.

:yay

Lots of Duragloss. It was 28 this morning. What a pain as I had to bring all my Blackfire and DG products inside.

I'll be putting my car into storage soon, and I just put Collinite 845 on my truck the other day along with some rain repellant on the glass.

I don't have much time for my stuff. I wish I was better at video because I could do a series of video rides in many unique vehicles prepped for winter storage. It's a yearly thing.

I Opti-Guarded all our vehicles after an extensive paint clean up with Menzerna 106FA and PO85RD. Came out stunning, water flies off, most dirt that sticks goes with it, and I plan on doing a lot less winter maintenance on them now - what a relief ! :)

I do not do anything really special. I will likely do a detail of the personal cars in December. At the moment, the vehicles have: one has BFMS, one has Mothers Step 3 paste, one has WGDPS, and another has BFWD.

BFMS: it was a retopper after 6 weeks or so. It does not the slickness of the original so looking forwards to strip it down and reapply.

Mothers Step 3 paste: This has been doing quite well outside 24x7. It has been a nice tight beader with good sheeting. It has a bright glossy hard shine to it.

BFWD: This was a re-topper and still is slick and looks nice.

WGDPS: This was applied over BF Total Polish and Seal. It is not as slick as BFWD.

With my truck now having OC , its a quick interior clean , tire rotation and oil change and its ready for the winter. My Firebird stays indoors untill the springtime returns. So while inside it will get treated to a Dr.Color Chip treatment , 22ple coating and if I'm lucky a set of rims off of a c5 Corvette. The wifes car will get a interior clean only. She tells me if I make it all shiney she feels bad taking it out in the winter mess shopping. And at least when she is out shopping she is leaving me alone.lol.

After a complete wash and clay, my 1999 Dodge Dakota will get a quick polish with Menzerna Super Finish PO106 FA. This really does a great job at removing most minor surface defects and the gloss is outstanding.

Once this is completed I'll do 2 coats of Menzerna Power Lock sealant, 12 hours apart, then a final coat of Collinite 845 ....

All the plastic trim will be treated with CQuartz DLux Plastic & Wheel Coating and the windshield will be cleaned and protected using Aquapel.

Throughout the winter I'll wash and maintain using several products especially a quality spray wax like Optimum Spray Car Wax or Duragloss Aquawax ..

The Z06 was washed and clayed yesterday. I will wipe it down with 3m general purpose adhesive cleaner, then re-wash.....break out the FLEX, menzerna SIP/white, then either po85rd or nano(super finish) and will be going to collinite. I've been on quite a collinite kick lately. Tried it on my honda and it worked beautifully(476s). I've used nothing but Zaino since 1999. It's pouring here in CT, plus I feel lousy so the car is in the garage with the test spots I did and Z7 soapy residue from the claying process on it. I'll tackle it more this week.

Im not sure if we will have a winter here in westeren washington state. Its 90 days + with no rain and nothing but sunny days. My Quattro is wanting snow to come. I enjoying the sun because its helping my business.

Don't plan on changing my washing routine except for washing the cars in the warmer afternoon instead of first thing in the morning. It doesn't snow here and doesn't get that cold. No need for winter tires, matter of fact I've never even seen a set of those. :D

:wall

yea, its on its way. HATE IT! well being the xterra is new i cringe. but its good as its going to get.

BF crystal seal on all surfaces including wheels. it will be time soon to move all my stuff inside. :snow:

sucks. plus i will miss the detailing. :(

Ive had Reload on for a few months now and it seems to be holding up great. Is it durable enough it I just reapply for my winter protection? If not Ill use my normal 845 or WG.

Completed yesterday on my truck. Wash, Clay, BF GEP, BF All purpose paint protection, two coats of BF Crytal Seal.
