What are the two best cars you owned or had the 'use' of

My best 2 were -

1984 Buick Grand National - extremely fast, the turbo spooled up quickly and was so loud, it sounded like a police car was right next to you ! :)

2002 BMW Z3-M-Coupe - had the same engine as the M3, but much smaller and lighter - a scary-fast car, but an ultimate road trip car.
The people I sold it to drove it back to Minnesota and emailed me a picture of the speedometer at 175mph as they were going through Montana!!
I was in shock and a little ticked at them for doing this to "my baby", and then realized it was no longer mine.. :(

I understand how you felt but these cars seem to salivate when they are driven hard! They are meant to be driven. There are 2 M Coupes in my parking lot at work and one has had multiple Dinan add ons. I can't imagine how sick that car is.

Hot cars

In the late 60's and early 70's I seem to go thru cars like water. had a 58 English Ford wagon with a small block chevy in it,then a 53 Chevy with a 301 sbc and cross ram intake , holleys,4spd. Got another Studebaker that was an old South Bend In police car. Next made a sleeper out of a 62 chevy wagon with a 360hp 396 and a 5:14 rear gear. That thing ate up the rich kids road runners and chevelles. Worked at a carb shop that ran a AA/FA with a blown olds and a c/dragster. Boss and I put the motor out of the wagon in a 53 Willys Overland panel truck. Next we butchered a xke 2+2 fastback with a 327 chevy which later went into a Austin Healy. If we only knew what we were destroying then but heck we had a ton of fun ! ! :D :D

Puckman,

Thanks for the comments, yes any BMW is meant to be driven hard, and they are all great road trip cars.

I would have loved to have kept mine, but it wasn't getting driven enough and making 3 trips to pick up the kids at school got old after awhile.

The rich people that bought mine have put it in their collection of very nice cars, so I feel good about that.

If you can get one of those people at your work to take you for a ride sometime, you will see just how sick these babies are.

It is an acquired taste for sure, because of the look but from the back, those big 9" wheels just under those huge flares looks really, really great !!

BMW was supposed to have them set at 155mph, but mine definitely was not set that way.

The people who drove it to 175mph said it wasnt topped out and they chickened out at that speed and I cant blame them a bit.
Crashing at that speed would have been a disaster..

Yeah, another good one that got away.. :( :)

Lemme see....

First car was a '74 Chevelle Malibu Classic - Boat - Was fun while it lasted, high schooler, basically wore it out.....

2nd '67 Ford Cortina, my step dad had it towed off and it got towed by the cops and never saw her again, it was a GT and it was fun, but no money to work on it or get it licensed as the chap before me lost the title and I had to jump through hoops to get the title and never got it....I liked that car :(

3rd was a '76 Ford Grenada, good for getting A to B

4th was a Chevy Sprint, 3 cylinder, got 50mpg!

5th '73 Olds Cutlass, fast and a good sleeper!

6th 80 AMC Concord, ran good, nothing special.....

7th 96 Nissan Hard Body, was a nice truck

8th 97 Kia Sephia, ex wife has it and it was nothing special at all, ran good but she wrecked twice since and it looks terrible, I paid it off and paid insurance for her......I also got my '64 Chevy C-10

8th '00 Ford Taurus 24V V-6, Mach Stereo (Divorce car) ran good, killer sound, tranny broke and rebuilt, broke again and.....

10th '00 GMC Yukon, 140,000+ on the clock still runs like a champ, having trouble with the fresh air/recir air door sticking, suspect door bad or a pen in the way that slid down a vent.....My new wife had a 95 Ford Aerostar, good for running kids had 187,000+ miles on the clock, original tranny and traded that for.....

11th '05 Dodge Neon SXT, good transportation, average 36+mpg

So you see, a divorced (happily re-married), rural No. California working as a Jailer in the 3rd largest land wise County with 43,000 people give or take, didn't own anything too wild.

Of all of them.....

I love my Chevy C-10, dropped a 350 in it and yanked out the 6 cylinder, replaced the rear end (tranny back was redone), just did a lot of work to it and learned a lot about mechanics from that truck, it has a burned valve right now but have a set of heads for it ready to go, just time and money right now, got kids, kid's sports, my boy has his '67 Dodge D100 that I help him maintain to keep the lad safe and bills! I love my Chevy, easy to work on and easy to get parts for it. I've got headers, 2 1/2" exhaust exiting behind the cab. It's got the granny 4sp, Grant 3 spoke wood wheel, a steering column mounted tach, gauges and all of the electrical works, I re-wired some of the lights back to new. It needs front end work and the burnt valve fixed. I got a set of heads for it and just need time and money right now.....It also needs a re-paint and upholstery work....I still love it though. I got it from a good friend for $100.00 and it's more sentimental than anything. My dream, although unlikely is a Duramax frame under the cab....64DMAX on the license plate would be cool!

I really like our Yukon, it was the first car me and the wife got together and have some good memories in it. I get about 17+mpg, comfortable on trips, stereo is decent and it shines really nice for a novice detailer.....I put some series 50, Ultra wheels from a Les Schwab and some Toyo Open Country A/T tires and they are oversized a bit. It's a 2wd and everyone thinks it's 4wd, including the chain control guys in our area, so I get to go. 4wd isn't the cure all for snow/mud, but safe drving is. I never chained up and know how to drive in snow. Although a 16 year old boy's birthday to Tahoe in the snow was fun.....

Okay, I've rambled enough.....

Sorry for no climax on a "cool" car to drive. I test drove a mid '80's camaro but couldn't afford it....It was fun though!

The best car I have ever owned was my 2007 Honda s2000, the things I would do to get another one!

WHY did they stop making those?! I guess I should quit bitchin' and go buy a Mazda Rx8 before they're gone too.

My two best were:

- an '89 Landcruiser... drove it 10 years, 200k mi., and sold it for $10K. Try that in a Ford!

- a '68 Cadillac ambulance, body by Superior... drove it as a part-time job when I was a student at Penn State... sweet ride, if you were up front.
