What 4 products did you use before Autopia?

This thread is top notch! :up

Wash: Laundry powder detergent, that I was always careful to dissolve as much as possible. An old flanel cloth to rub. The powder brand ("Roma") is awfully cheap and was quite effective.....

Dry: Old t-shirt. The best ones were for drying, the really crappy became rags. Bath towel as a treat :o

Polish: Spot hand polished with old school paste polishes intended for single stage paints. Used to apply with tow. What is really sad is the fact that most supermarkets here STILL carry polishes that recommend use by hand, use tow to apply and even wet the tow in gasoline to make it shinier..... :(

Wax: Tempo, then NuFinish that I still use in wheels and in some very specific cases.

QD: I didn't know they exist.

Interior and tires: Armor all

Edit: As many others, even with those products and techniques, our cars were among the best looking.....

Alex ;)

Wash, Turtle wax

Polish Autoglym Resin

Wax Extra Gloss or Blitz

QD did not know they existed.

I still use Autoglym in the LSP phase but I have improved my technique and discovered the benefits of polishing.

The better my technique has become the more I like Autoglym

I'll join in on this:

Remember, I had an old, faded car. I used Sam's Car Wash (brushless, but not touchless) and paid upwards of $20 to let other men wash and dry my car.

Then I went home and used Color Back or Turtle Wax.

I cleaned the windows with - you guessed it - Windex.

I came to DC (and discovered Autopia the same day) to learn how to PROPERLY detail my new car. I'm sure glad these forums exist!

-EDIT- WhooHoo, this was my 150th post on Autopia!:woot:

Lowejackson, I agree with you on AG products!

I haven't been at this for as long as you, although I have always obsessed over my cars appearance (I just know a lot more about process now!), but the more and different products I use, along with the more I question my technique - the more I realise what top grade products AG really are!

especially the SRP and EGP products. so easy to use and very good results. It annoys me when they are spoken about so lowly on other forums (clue - UK forums from another product manufacturer beginning with 'M')

I want to try their instant tyre dressing product - do you have any experience of that?

I also wish they did a pure carnauba topper wax - but they don't do they?

(sorry to hi-jack the thread!)

The tyre dressing is good but as with everything else make sure you prep well, apply and leave for 10-15 minutes and buff.

As far as I know AG do not sell a wax but there are lots of other good wax's out there.

Back on topic, I do remember buying some tins of Blitz many years ago but gave them away as I thought it was not as good as Turtle Wax
