Wash: Laundry powder detergent, that I was always careful to dissolve as much as possible. An old flanel cloth to rub. The powder brand ("Roma") is awfully cheap and was quite effective.....
Dry: Old t-shirt. The best ones were for drying, the really crappy became rags. Bath towel as a treat
Polish: Spot hand polished with old school paste polishes intended for single stage paints. Used to apply with tow. What is really sad is the fact that most supermarkets here STILL carry polishes that recommend use by hand, use tow to apply and even wet the tow in gasoline to make it shinier.....
Wax: Tempo, then NuFinish that I still use in wheels and in some very specific cases.
QD: I didn't know they exist.
Interior and tires: Armor all
Edit: As many others, even with those products and techniques, our cars were among the best looking.....
