Weight Loss Thread!

South Beach is the diet for life....I always recommend that if sum one mentions diets. The other thing is that its gourmet food....there is food prep and sum efforts required in the kitchen....but I like to cook... this diet makes anyone a better cook...do you agree with that ?

Absolutely! The doctor who wrote the book "The South Beach Diet" is a cardiologist. His intent was to develop a lifestyle nutrition that would help his patients have a healthy heart and lose weight as a side benefit!

SBD does make you a better cook too!

If we get some people involved in this thread, I'll be on a ROLL! (I'm getting stoked just talking about it!:Dancing Dot::clap::Dancing Dot:)

You will like south beach...its not like one of these fad diets...the food is great it just teaches ya the good carbs and a smarter way to eat.

What I like about SBD is that it's not a DRASTIC change from my normal eating habits.

Basically, I'm just cutting way back on bread, pasta, sugar, rice, potatoes. All that starchy stuff.

Two months ago I decided to do several things... start eating healthy... start working out again... and stop smoking.
Phase 1 was to eat healthy... Since I started I have lost 20 lbs without exercise other than the norm.
I just started working out again so that would be Phase 2 (I used to work out but not really push myself) So I am pushing it hard for the next 90 days as well as eating right. Hopefully I will drop a few pounds of body fat while gaining some more muscle mass. My target will be 180lbs (Where I am now) but with body fat down to about 15 or so. Not really sure on that yet.
Then comes the smoking #3. I figured take a step in the right direction with the healthy diet and working out, then tackle smoking.

Want to stick with a diet? ... TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW!

People use the same method when trying to quit smoking, letting everyone in your life (friends, family, colleges) know that your trying to accomplish something will help you get it done.

If your at a party and 10 people there know your on a diet, your less likely to indulge yourself and instead stick to the plan you started with.

Best of luck!

A slice of whole grain bread or toast is ok for breakfast..and it adds fiber to the diet....a baked tater with real butter and low fat sour cream isnt that bad either....now sugar,is the root of all evil...refined sugar is addicting, most folks dont know that...give it up for a few weeks, you wont want it anymore at all.
The snickers bar craving....it will pass in a few weeks....I love them !
A fresh ruby red grapefruit along with breakfast will help trim the gut....no sugar...sweet and low if ya hafta....a good one doesnt need it anyway, after your kisser gets over the initial rush...hehe....oatmeal with banana and a little honey, not yur wife, the kind in the jar  A good hour of exercise a day and alot of water...64 ounces a day at least , fish twice a week..er at least once.
I go to the gym three times a week for about an hour to get in a routine.
Their are a few other things, but things above are a recipe for better health.
Another thing, those listed things will still allow ya to have sum cocktails or beers...in sum moderation without blowing up the whole diet...:)

Im 'FAT

I am heavier then at any other time in my life and hate it. My excuse is while on the road is that most of the food available at truckstops on the road is all junk. Second problem is my wife says I'm such a picky eater ( if its good for me I probable don't like it ) . While driving 600+ miles a nite there isn't much time left for exercise. Sooooo any ideas to help me get from 247 back to about 165 ? ? HELP ! ! !

Muscle mass weighs more than body fat....here is whats important though,a cutting phase is where you concentrate on your diet and sum cardio exercises and exercises to trim the middle,if you gain muscle mass without losing body fat ,then it becomes harder to loose the fat.
I quit smoking about twenty years back...best thing I ever did.

Thats tough buddy with your routine, the only way you can make it work is to learn about the food groups to leave alone, then at the truck stop basically you order ala cart ,order sum lean meat, maybe cottage cheese and fruit.Drink more water, once you shrink your tummy sum ,you wont require as much, the weight will leave. The absolute most important meal is breakfast..it sets the pace for the whole day...if you dont eat it,it causes over eating later.

I am not a diabetic, but my doctor told me that if I eat like one, I will maintain good health.

She's right. I've been the same weight for 3 years, low cholesterol, low triglycerides, and 125/75 BP.

Now, before you think it's abolishing food from your diet, check out this link to help you eat that way.

Just another option.

You are EXACTLY right! It's all about keeping your blood sugar level. The closer you can keep your blood sugar to 100, the healthier you'll be.

It's not the fat that will kill you it's the SUGAR!!!

Well, you know what Jack Lalanne use to say...If It Taste Good, Spit It Out!!! :(

Haha... pretty much! On a roll now, 10 pounds in the first 6 days. I found my charted progress from 2003 (before cancer) and I'm on the same trend as then. 8 months 80 pounds.

(All I really need to do is stay away from SUGAR!):toetap05::o

True... Every nutrition source I've read says that sugar provides a BREEDING GROUND for cancer cells!:banghead:

This thread is making me hungry :drool5:

I will start my diet right after I polish off these powdered donuts in front of me :Snowman:

I hear you! What's a chocohilic to do? I'll start figuring that one out after I polish of this pounder of M&Ms. :w00t:

(see, I kept it on-Forum-topic... I said "polish" too.

TL... you crack me up!

Actually a couple pieces of dark chocolate every day is heart-healthy! (but you just can't eat a pound a day!)
