We don't talk about Klasse SG

Klasse is great, but I found UPGP to have better durability (using four coats of each). Maybe it's just me, but that is my experience.

Of all the products I have used, I like the way Klasse finishes best - minus any residue it leaves behind. Which is it's main down fall; is sucks to remove.

sorry but IMO it's just you

UPGP durability is no where near what I get from SG

any residue/removal problems are usually from putting it on too thick

I just got another container fron eshine, great price and I mostly use it on my own vehicle. I love the slickness of it and gives great protection. But it did have a learning curve at first, now I find it easy. PS I knew you would chime in on this thread accumulator as you have mentioned your use of it in other threads, about 4 coats for the best look? I think thats whats on my car now and I expect it to get through an east coast winter easily.

I'm pretty new around here but I started with Klasse (and P21S) after reading the perfect shine article. I did a good amount of research before trying the stuff out on my sister's car. I didn't run into any problems with removing the SG and even tried a few different ways of putting it on (whole car and wait 30 minutes, panel by panel).

It's been about 2 months since I put 3 layers of SG and a topping of P21S on my car (with another application of P21S about a month ago) and things are still looking pretty good. The car gets a bit dirty sometimes when the roads are wet but a heavy rain takes most of the dirt right off. Water still beads up nice and tight. I'm hoping the SG will last through the winter. Hopefully we'll get a decent day in NJ soon and I can put on another coat of P21S. As of now I don't see any reason to use anything other than Klasse. It's been pretty easy to use and I've very pleased with the results.

Klasse SG works fine with me. i love how the water beads with two coats of it on my car. i've been using it for 4 years now and will stick to this great product unless i find other sealant in the market that can put up with it.

Yeah, three or four coats look better to me than one or two, and four is the minimum for good durability IME. I do go for six though.

I have been using the same 16.9 oz. bottle of KSG for about 5 yrs. I plan on trying Werkstat or Ultima eventually, as they sound like they are easier to work with and do not look as "plasticky" as KSG.

I do think KSG looks better with a couple of coats of Danase Wet Glaze:

2X KSG

2X DWG

2X KSG

I still top with a wax (S100, Poorboys Red, or Megs #26) to achieve my favorite look:2thumbs:

I read as much as I could bear about KSG before I started its use and I find it pretty easy to use. WOWO and learning thin application were the keys. The rewards on KSG use is that it elicits the most admiring looks.

Mixing in DWG in the Klasse regimen does add some variety without the finality of using carnauba topper. I also use Aquawax with great results once I already have 5 layers of KSG. AW doesn't change the look of KSG much.

As an aside, I usually don't top with a carnauba except for Souveran. Quite a different look , very rich and deep and wet.

@ Accumulator, In your view what colors/paints does ksg appear to look good on? Mettalics? Solids? Darks?Lights?etc?

@Any experienced detailer, Can KSG perform just as well in terms of looks and durability if applied right after a jewling polish instead of a base of AIO? BTW, I love how AIO looks.

Eh, I can't help with that as I've never used it on anything except silver and, once, Audi pearl white. And to be honest, I only like how it looks on certain paints; while it looks fine to me on Mazda and Subaru silver, I simply *HATE* how it looks on Audi silver for some reason! I wouldn't choose KSG for its looks, but rather for it's (IME) unsurpassed durability and protection. IF I had to generalize I'd say that IMO KSG simply doesn't look all that swell, not that I really go for splitting hairs that way with regard to LSPs.

And no, I've never tried it except over KAIO.

I'm glad to see many of you still recommend KSG. I just placed my first order for some products and chose KSG. Time to read more on applying it so I can get the most of it!

Anyone actually compare this to Griot's Garage paint sealant? I put the Griot's on my GTI in January. Nearly 6 months later, the car still looks fantastic after a wash and spray on wax except for the rear hatch. I'll have to clay all the red specs, etc long before "the year" of protection is over. Would K.S.G. help protect my hatch and rear bumper better?

I still use KSG regularly and I somewhat agree with Accum on the looks. It's not that it looks bad per say, but it's not a product you use to bring out the depth of paint, etc. I absolutely love the durability of it but I also like the look it brings to paint. It gives a nice shiny coat and I've heard compliments from a lot of clients saying the looks are great. On the other hand, I have also been using Blackfire Wet Diamond and while it's quite a bit easier to apply & remove... I use a 5.5" blue pad with the PC and a small applicator on edges, along with trim, etc. I like the looks maybe a bit more but I honestly haven't used BFWD on enough different cars/colors to say it's superior in looks and I also haven't really tested the durability of it. All in all I think KSG is a great sealant and if used the way I've been using it for a while now, it's very easy to apply & remove.

It is a PITA to use but was worth it. It's not mentioned much here any more but there was definitely a formula change back when all the VOC changes were going through. Some products were just dis continued and some like SG were changed. It was denied that the formula was changed but there are plenty of people that noticed a bid drop off in durability in SG.

Yep, I remember that.

IMO the big protection from KSG comes from the ability to layer it heavily. Stuff like those rust-blooms will then only happen in the outer layer(s) of the KSG and can be clayed away without stripping all the KSG off the paint.

Five or six layers of KSG last a *LOT* longer than 6 months for me, but I believe that with any LSP the whole "YMMV" thing always applies. But six months...eh, that's not even getting started in my case and my KSGed minivan gets used hard year-round.

Curious about the Griot's sealant...how many layers did you apply? Can you still feel it on the paint (that "just sealed" feel)?

I've often wondered about that  I'm still using my bottle from the late '90s but I do expect I'll finally use it up some day...I've debated switching to Jeff's at that point but I'm still on the fence.

I'm currently using it on my Millenium Silver Lexus GS430. My wife was kind enough to take our daughter on a two-week trip to Europe, so I've had the pleasure of being able to leave the car in the garage and simply apply coat after coat of SG.

Here's what I've found. I apply the coat at about 10pm each night. The garage is 70 degrees, and about 50% humidity. I let the SG dry for two hours, then wipe it off. It is coming off EASY, and on a few coats I've applied it pretty thick. Currently, I'm up to 6 coats, and because I'm bored and home alone, I probably won't stop until I get to 10. For the six coats, I doubt I've used 3 ounces of product. One trick that was recommended to me by a long-time SG user is to apply it by hand with a yellow foam disc, and when you are done, immediately put the disc into a ziploc baggie. After about three coats, the disc is pretty saturated, so I am using less and less out of the bottle. I've never experienced the removal issues that some have had with SG, and often let it dry this way for a few hours before removing.

I haven't decided whether to top SG with anything, or even use a glaze for a few layers. Like Accumulator, I have used SG on a few different colors, and sometimes I don't like what I see. This is the first time on Lexus Silver, and as soon as my wife returns with my digital camera, I'll post some pics.

All in all, I am still a fan of SG.

I think I will put this on the Gti tomorrow. I just finished painting a garage that was built in 1963. :O
