Vauxhall Signum (Menzerna + Zymol)

Bryan and I took a trip through to the west coast today to visit Chris (PuntoGT), and give Bryan's car its pre-winter exterior detail... The Signum was in very good condition as you'd expect, only minor swilring on the paintwork from an incident with concrete dust... :( This was soon to be fixed though...

First of all the car was washed down and dried. While Chris and Bryan set to with the masking of the plastic, I tried out a combination of product to remove the light swilring:

Now, normally - the gentle PC would be one of the obvious choices for removng light swirls with a light cutting polish... but was it the best choice for the best possible finish? Having recently been experimenting with the rotary and finishing techniques, I am now believe that the rotary is capable of a notably better finish than the PC - so it was out with the Makita.

I decided to go with Menzerna Final Finish (PO106FF) on a Meguiars finishing pad (W9006)... Spread at 600rpm, then one pass at 900rpm, one pass at 1200rpm and then several passes at 1500rpm until the residue started to go clear. I then made two final passes at 900rpm to refine the finish and buffed off the residue with a microfibre cloth:

Happy with this finish. No holograms, no induced micromarring and a finish which I considered to be more crystal clear than that achieveable by PC. The bonnet was then completed using this method, a shot of the completed bonnet under the halogens:

A a shot of the gloss achieved on the bonnet using the Final Finish, an excellent finishing polish:

And a before and after show of a rear passenger door under the Lidl halogens:

Bryan had a go at "rotary finishing" on the roof of the car and quickly got to gips with getting an LSP ready, crystal clear finish by rotary.

Once all the defect removal had been carried out, it was time for the Zymol treatment on the car. First up, Chris and I applied HD Cleanse - small areas at a time, applied with firm pressure in straight lines using a Meguiars foam applicator and buffed off with Costco microfibres. The delivered a reall nice wet look shine on the already glossy base. Bryan then followed, with the help of Chris to apply Zymol Destiny: applied by hand, removed with Costco microfibres. The paintwork was then ready for photogrpahs...

Final touches: I treated the tyres to Mrguiars Endurance Gel, Chris polished the alloys by hand with Contour (similar to SRP, only cheaper)... this product brought the wheels up very nice after their APC clean at the start of the detail:

and the flake was also nicely alive:

And finally, the after shots - the car was rolled out into the evening sun and given a final dust down and odd bits of residue removed here and there. The afters:

Stunning! Great job on the total picture of it all. Everything from paint to wheels is top notch. I also love 106ff polish to finish with; great stuff.

How do you like the Zymol Destiny?

It certainly gave a very wet and deep looking shine, though IMO a lot of that came from the HD Cleanse before it and the fact the paint was properly prepared... Will judge the Destiny more after I see how durable it is, am personally still in two minds about Zymol and whether or not its woth the large sums of money.. . Still, it looked sweet on the Signum. :getdown

Yes, it is quite a bit of money, thats why I wanted to know if it is actually worth it. I doubt that it is worth THAT much more but if it is better than everything else, I may still pick some up. Keep us updated on your opinions of it! :2thumbs:
