I tried a few combos of pads/polishes today to get rid of the hazing and.......Voila! it's gone(on one panel at least).
What I did was polish the car inside my portable car garage with a 500w halogen light shining on the finish. It was a tight fit with me and the car in the garage, but well worth the effort.
After close inspection under the halogen light, I realized that I still had quite a few light-to-moderate scratches(no swirls) in the paint. I tried SSR1 with both a white and orange pad, with no luck. So I brought out the big guns......SSR 2.5 and an ORANGE pad!
After 2 (yes 2) passes, 99% of the scratches were gone! Then 1 pass with SSR1/white pad and 1 pass with PWs/white pad and the finish looked silky smooth!!!
Now that I've got the magic combo....Monday's polishing should be a piece of cake. It'll probably take me 3+ hours, but the results should be well worth it.

Don't beat yourself up if there are still some swirls on the paint...under those lights what you see there will not be visible under natural light....good luck with the finish

That's great to hear :rockon There is not an exact science to detailing and trial and error is usually the best way to learn. Yes, black is a real pain, especially under halogens  . Good luck on the rest of your detail :bigups

Yeah...that's what I was figuring too. I had to put the light about 12 inches from the car to see the remaining scratches.
It may be a little more difficult to check my progress when I do the rest of the polishing during daylight. The halogen really brought out the defects better than sunlight ever did.

I love perfecting the paint.

I did a sweet Bentley Coupe today that gets washed by a cheap hack every week. The owner uses him because he only charges 15 bucks to wash it, compared to my 45. So every month he has me come and repair the damage. I tried to talk sense into him but it's his money not mine.

This car washer has a loyal following in one of the gated communities here. He stays busy so I can't knock him for what he's doing.

The last time I did the Bentley he showed up to wash the rest of the cars so I had a chance to see him in action.

It was a scary sight. First thing I noticed was the bottle of Dawn dish washing liquid. :scared:

Then the rags (not mitts or sponges or microfiber but dirty old rags) he used to wash with were on the ground, no bucket or anything. :scared::scared:

From that point on, I couldn't bare to watch anymore.

At this rate the Bentley will need a new paint job after a year probably.

It is amazing isn't it? I'm just blown away by folks whose car is worth more than our home can be so damn tight that it prevents them from seeing the big picture. They simply close their mind while you are sincerely trying to explain the consequences to them (like the car rag washer above).

Nathansdad04- Makes you feel like a million bucks when things work out well like that doesn't it? Congrats on sticking with it and a great outcome.

Congratulations!
Obviously I was completely wrong in my thinking the problem was being caused by too aggressive a pad and product.
Glad to hear you have a solution to the problem.

Yeah, I guess I was just lightly scuffing the surface of the CC and not actually doing any defect repair with my previous pad/polish combos. Had I not been at my wit's end regarding the hazing etc...I wouldn't have tried such an aggressive polish/pad combo. Either my CC is harder than I thought OR I was polishing a bit too gingerly the first few attempts.

I'm thinking about applying the liquid NXT wax with the PC....will it work using a gray pad? I'll remove it by hand, though.

I'm not much for paying attention to pad colors. If a gray pad is a finishing pad, I'm sure it would work fine.
I have read that if NXT is used with a polishing pad, it will remove a small anount of paint blemishes. If it is applied with a finishing pad, it doesn't have much effect on whatever you are putting it over.
NXT is so easy to apply that I have always just done it by hand. About the only thing I use the PC for is paint correction.

When I'm done with the polishing...I'm sure my arms will be sore as heck, so I figured the PC could do the waxing for me. Yes the gray LC pad is a finishing pad. I plan on applying the wax at speed 2 so I doubt it will do any correction whatsoever.

I think that's my problem. I just did my first real detail with the PC and my finish looks a lot better but seeing a lot of little imperfections under the halogens left me feeling like I had failed. When I took my truck to a car show the next day the difference was amazing. In full sunlight the finish looked perfect.

Since it was my first time I assumed I had to get the finish flawless under those lights but now I feel better about my first time.
