Ultrafina or 106FF

I am thinking of getting UF and wondering if UF has the same cut as 106FF. I see comparasions of UF and 85RD. Does UF dusts as much as 106FF?

UF is a great product and does not dust. It can sling if too much product is used though, however it can be wiped off easily. The proper way of using UF is to work it and finish it wet and don't let it dry buff. I don't think it has as much cut as 106ff.

Don't get me wrong, i like 106ff but it can get finicky and jumpy, whereas UF just glides.

IME, UF will remove holograms left behind from a wool/rotary combo. I'd get UF in a heartbeat.

I used UF lastnight for the very fist time. I finally have a polish that I can work for awhile and remains wet. I noticed very little cut, however it will remove those very fine swirls that you catch only in the perfect light.

I really like UF. Although I have some, I've never tried 106FF. I finally got my wash technique down... that means no more swirls = no more heavy polish required.

Ultrafina doesn't dust at all. Ultrafina is a wet-finishing polish; when it's done it's job, it's still as wet as when you first put it on, so no way it can dust. Kinda throws you off the first time you use it... you want to keep working it but it's already done.

Some people say that 106ff has more bite to it than Ultrafina.

No, Ultrafina cuts much better than 85rd. It's so close to 106FF that I can't tell a difference, but some do say 106 has more cut.

I worked a carrera last week and used 106FF w/ white followed by UF w/ a black LC pad and back to back its really no contest. 106FF is a nice polish but UF is so much easier to work with, doesnt get grabby and the no dusting is a big plus IMO. I think it leaves a finer finish also compared to 106.

Had another look at UF again and it contains formaldehyde

Probably not much though

I don't see how you guys can get dusting from 106, it spreads beautifully for me

You can add some parrafin oil to the bottle to guarantee no dust

My local Menzerna supplier has UF as well and its $42 a bottle which is not too bad

I'll definately get some after my May 1 VE Commodore aka Pontiac detail but am still concerned about the ingredients in it

So do you apply UF for 30 seconds or longer and what speed range?

Not to be a stick to a product person but how can an american manufacturer make a better product than the germans.

I prefer 85RD Finishing polish to 106 in terms of look (106 then RD is my process) and then I apply the non abrasive sealant prep like permagard Slightly or PD

So UFs easier to work with you reckon.

I have a suspicion that the UF will have fillers in it

As much as I love other 3M products I despise 3M polishes

I have done wipedowns with IPA/water 50/50 after UF on black 3-4 times on different cars and once with prep solv and never had any marring, holograms or swirls come back. I know that a few others have done more extensive testing and have got the same results.

SVR, I don't understand how you can make this claims or suspisions about UF when you have not tried it yet.

As it has been said in the past 106ff is a production line polish, it was made to work in specific temp ranges and humidity. If you happen to be working with 106ff in these conditions, then of course it will work very well.

I have worked UF in 45°f temps and up to 80°f in the direct sun without any issues.

Well any time siloxane and formaldehyde is listed I get a little concerned

It doesn't have any kaolin clay so there's definately none of that filler in it

I am going to try ultafine. PO85RD has been my go to polish. We will see what happens! Hope it'd good because 85RD id hard to beat. Leaves a nice clean finish.

Hello Alfisti,

yes, I know, I have 106FA, 85RE5 and 85RD. I see moreless the same cut from 106FA and UF.

For more gloss. My jobs not done when the marks are all gone, got to lift the gloss much higher than just doing 2 to 3 steps with menz
