Tricks to cut down on super-clayfest sessions?

I've been thinking...how do some of you guys go about cutting down on the need to claybar on beat up cars?

You pro's know what I'm talking about--those "haven't been waxed in years" paints.

I realized that normally I don't mind claying...but on especially beat up paint...I find myself more irritated and aggravated at the amount of work that goes into pulling off all those contaminants.

I found in some occasions, even two or three dawn washes don't seem to help nor does ONR; a fresh clarbar quickly finds itself in the "wheel clay" pile or garbage within half a car sometimes...

Curious as to what you do at times like these.

I'm sure many of you will just grit your teeth and put in the clay time, but wondering if some of you have neat tricks in these situations.

I was afraid you were going to say that--I know accum is a fan of the ABC system--but I wonder how much those cost...I imagine the kit is good for maybe 4 cars ?

I was going to say.... Why be afraid? It sounds like a decon system like Valugard ABC is exactly what someone as yourself could benefit from. They say their kit "will treat ten to fifteen vehicles". I know the Acid and Alkaline neutralizers (A+B) cost a little over $50 at places like Detailers Domain. ....not sure what the cost is with the wash (C) though.

wonder how long the 5gallon kits will last...and how much they are--still not sure why the actual valuguard site doesn't seem to actually sell direct...

....well, the quote I posted earlier applies to the 1 gallon kit (1 gal of each) so I would figure roughly 50 - 75 cars if you could obtain the product in a 5 gallon size (never seen it sold that way myself though). Accum would likely know about sourcing, etc.

decon kit will definitely make the claying process much easier/quicker. I want to try the tar cleaner as a follow up step next time i use my 3 step decon kit (forgot the brand but ordered it from autogeek). I've read that some people clay while using the decon acid step, although the acid does eat away at the clay also and be sure to wear gloves!! the decon kit does not eliminate 100% of the contaminates.

4000 grit MicroMesh sandpaper works awsome. For example on big overspray jobs that require countless hours of claying, this can be easily accomplished in less than 2 with this sandpaper. Plus, a 4000 grit sand scratch is a breeze to remove and costs tons less.
