Tire dressings

I like PB Bold and Bright as I can dilute it for a more matte look, and Detailers Pride tire gel for a more

glossy look.

Meg's #57, which I believe is pretty much the same as Meg's #40, I can buy it OTC here , thinking of just getting a gallon of #40 online sometime.

mshu7- Yeah, +1 on that applicator!

For some reason I simply hated "sliming" my tires so much that I seldom did it, even fitted "no dressing required" tires to the Yukon. Then I got one of those (got mine from TOL) and it made the job so easy that I'm doing it whenever it's needed.

Does the OptiBond look a bit shinier on the BMW's tires than on the Infiniti's? Kinda looks that way in the pix..

I just started using the Opti-Bond / Griot's Garage applicator combo about a month ago. I'm really impressed with both products. Makes dressing tires so easy. Plus, it takes very little product. One "pump" of the sprayer (comes out as a stream), making a circle on the applicator is all I use on each tire.

As for the look of the tires in the pics, yes the BMW does look shinier. I notice that some tires absorb the dressing more than others. Both sets of tires in the pics were Michelins as well so I don't really know why the difference. I know the owner of the BMW rarely takes his car through the automatic car wash. The Infiniti probably sees a car wash much more often. Maybe the chemicals at the car wash are effecting the rubber on the Infiniti?!?!?!

I have not cut it 1:1 so what is the advantage other than a 50% reduction in cost such as same look/durabilty for less or does it change the sheen. I call it the full strength look at glossy clean (not bad but just not matte).

I've only used it 1:1 based on other recommendations that I read before using it. I personally prefer matte so that's why I never tried using it straight. I'm sure it looks good either way though. I'm amazed at how well it makes tires look even at 1:1. Not only shine, but it just makes the tires look really nice and black.

mshu7- That diff between the Infiniti and BMW tires may very well be from the carwash chemicals. But yeah, different tires simply look different when you dress 'em anyhow.

I just started using Surf City Beyond Black, and it's starting to grow on me. It leaves a nice matte finish, but it does have just a little bit of sheen also. It makes tires nice and black just like the product description says. I like this product, but I like just a wee bit more of a shine. I would definitely buy it again, but I still want to try Duragloss 253 and Zaino Z16. I was surprised to see 253 at a local parts store so that will probably be my next choice.

I've been using Stoners MSLT in the trigger version. It leaves a very nice semi-gloss finish too! Most places around here just carry the aerosol version. The trigger version allows for less messy application.

The tires with Opti-Bond in the post above look great!

OTC products work just fine.

Meguiar's Hot Shine Spray

Meguiar's Endurance Gel

Armor All Extreme Shine Gel (it isn't extreme at all)

Don't waste your money on boutique products. The three above give great results on the cheap.

Except for the fact that most of them leave a high gloss as well as a sticky mess which only attracts brake dust and more road grime like a magnet.

Aren't some of those silicon/oil based? Leaving browning of the tires when they fade!?

If you're going to go OTC just get some Autoglym tire dressing :)

I agree 100%. All of the above attract dirt and make a mess when it comes to cleaning time.

I gotta try the Autoglym stuff. For me the best OTC is Mothers FX. Nice sheen and it really darkens tires too. i just tried the EO spray gel. Wow, I hate the stuff after doing 1/4 tire.

I'm getting ready to place a supplies order and I think I'm going to pull the trigger on some Duragloss #253 and see how i like it.

You will like it. If you don't I'll buy it from you!!

I have DG #251. Is this the same as #253, a label change or a diff formula? Bought it a few years ago.

Same stuff.

Duragloss 251 is the 8 oz version

Duragloss 253 is the 19 oz version

I don't know why DG does that with their line as it is confusing.

Also consider that when you buy a "boutique" tire gel like Opti-Bond in the 32 oz. bottle, it's actually cheaper by the ounce than an over-the-counter product.

Example:

Meg's High Endurance retails for $10 for a 16 oz. bottle which is $.63 cents per ounce (w/no tax included).

I found a 32 oz. bottle of Opti-Bond online for $16 w/free shipping which comes to $.50 cents per ounce.

Also, in my experience using both products, OB requires far less product per tire. Not to mention you can cut it 1:1 so it ends up being $.25 per ounce.

In this example at least it's actually far cheaper for a superior, "boutique" product.

I really like Optimum Tire Shine. It dries nicely and leave a really "clean" matte, new tire look. I've always sort of been on the fence with most tire dressings I've used because of how glossy they are and how much they sling, but the OTS has been my favorite so far. I'd like to try Opti-bond as well from the reviews I've heard of it.

I have now tried the SC Beyond Black on the tires of my daily driver HHR,and boy do they look awesome. I used it on the tires of my '64 C10,and I love the look as well. I went over each tire twice, and that left a very deep and black finish with just the right amount of shine! Very nice! I still want to give DG 253 and Z16 a shot though. The Beyond Black also worked well on my truck's tonneau cover, and also on some of the trim of my HHR.

It's interesting as to how dressings look on different tires. SC looked good on the tires of my Formula, but not like on my other two vehicles.
