Tire dressings..

Me too. Love Z16. Never did care much for the vaseline-on-tire look. I like a clean, matte black tire that melts into the wheel well to the point that you can hardly see the tire, leaving the wheels the center point of attention. Z16 does that look very well.

Yeah, it's the closest I've found to the "fresh from the mold" look; I want the tires (well, the whole vehicle for that matter) to look just-made.

I honestly can't remember ever having sling from any dressing except when I messed up the application  I mean...*never* in the course of thirty-some years :nixweiss I wipe off any excess and...well, no problems. Don't mean that to sound all :nono but I just don't get why so many people have trouble with something that's never happened to me.
....I guess any "sling" or "run" issues I have had have always been with thicker products that have a tendency of collecting in the nooks & crannies of the sidewall. With some products, even though I am careful to wipe up excess, it seems centrifugal force (and perhaps heat) will force it from the ribs/crevices and show up as little "runs". My best bet has always been with thinner products (of the ones I have tried) that can be easily wiped on and wiped off. ….that’s probably why I always seem to go back to 303. The drawback is it can take a couple of additional coats/wipe downs to ensure an even finish and it simply doesn’t last long. I like a clean, satin-like sheen on my tires. I think I’m going to have to try Z16.

….I recall that I actually had pretty good success with Mother’s Back to Black in the past.

Well I've definitely had to deal with sling, but it is usually with the non-water based products.

Kean you can try Fk108, dark black look, last long if tires are clean properly and not solvent base, water base

Maybe I just haven't used that kind of dressing enough to have had issues.

Yeah, I spent forever wiping off excess product with that Endurance.

Thanks Itebow. If I'm going to try something new it will probably first be Z-16 or DG 253 (since I have heard several people compare it to z-16). ....but I will keep fk108 in mind.

I've used both Meg's gels and didn't like either. Yes they are shiny, but they are oil based and a PITA to remove. Plus, if you don't wipe off the excess, it will sling all over your car and cause more issues. My new go to dressing is Opti-Bond. This is just one coat (I've never used more than 1 coat). It is water based and doesn't sling at all. Plus I've gotten a good 3 weeks out of it, even during a few days straight of rain.

How many coats of Opti-Bond is that? I could never get it to look nearly that dark and glossy.

That's just one coat Rob. I've never used more than one. I don't think I put it on overly thick either. It dries fairly quickly and won't sling at all.

That's very strange. I didn't get a look even close to that with my OB.

Well it's been a long time since I posted anything on here since my last visit, and from the looks of things, this forum has changed a lot. But I just want to add if I may, that I remember, the appearance would be dependent on the manufacturer of said tire, sort of like how vinyl protectants would give areas like the dash either a matte or shiny appearance. Anyone remember that?

On a side note, good to see some of the old timers on here still posting :chuckle:

Hey robert :wavey

I find the sheen diffs between my various tires to be pretty minimal with Z16, but that's just IME and I bet it's a YMMV sort of thing.

Aloha Accumalator,

i haven't tried Z16 so I have no basis for comparison, but using PBBB on a set of Kumho tires left them looking like satin, as opposed to glossy and wet when using AA tire foam, the former being my preference. I wonder why that is.

Listen to me ..... If you like Z16 then you will love Duragloss 253. 19oz spray bottle for $7.50 at Autogeek !!!!!

robert- I've only had one set of Kumhos, and that was quite a while ago...maybe certain tires *do* respond very differently to certain products :nixweiss At least you've found an approach that gives you the look you want on 'em.

MDRX8- So the DuraGloss is gonna seem like the same stuff only cheaper? I'm working my way through a case of Z16 but will eventually need to go shopping....
