Tire Cleaner and Dressing Recommendation

"Can you tell me why you prefer Z16 over PB BnB?"

Sure.

Nicer overall look.
Less gloss.
More durability based on my testing.

Hey Siverlexus,
I just ordered Z16, hopefully it will be here by the end of the week and I can get to work.

Thanks again.

Tire cleaning: Simple Green (not full strength!) on cool wheels and a scrub brush will eat the grime away!

Wheels: I like the 4* wheel gel and Meg's Hot rims. Agitate either one with a wheel brush. Both are good for eating away the brake dust. For the really nasty wheels, I use soap, #000 3M wool, and elbow grease.

Tire Shine: Hands down... Poorboy's Bold N Brite. It does not sling, can be cut with water, and it does not wear off after driving through the rain & muck. it's great for dressing up your wheel wells too. This really is a great product!

No problem. Wait a minute or two and apply a second layer. Wipe off if you want a matte look.

I think you will like the look and how well it holds up.

My impression of Z16 so far is that it is the best tire dressing I've ever used in 10 years of trying different varieties :bigups

You are comparing apples and oranges:

Water-based vs Solvent Based

try comparing Trim Restorer to Z16 and then there is a fair comparison

Oh I thought BnB was more of a 303 competitor in that it is water based too.

Is this accurate: BnB: water based

Z16: water based

Trim Restorer: solvent based

:huh

Bill from what i read at the Zaino site:

Use on all exterior rubber, tires, moldings, plastic trim, weatherstripping, underhood hoses and more.

Just wet a sponge with Z-16 and apply to the surface to be treated and let dry. It will last thru rain and multiple washings. Z-16 is very durable and will last an average of 3 to 4 weeks on an outdoor car.

Z-16 is not recommended for interior seats or vinyl tops.

these are not the traits of water based products, even though it has no silicone.

Yes I would compare Natural Look to 303 , but you'd have to dilute BnB about 3:1 to get the same comparison to 303. Also diluted, which Zaino can't be, BnB can be used easily on interiors and vinyl tops. Then the last comparison is prices of 16oz bottles, but that's another thread.:)

I'll look around to find out more about the Z16, was told that that high resin content made those qualities possible. It sure looks like a water based dressing as we are familar with.

Steve, Zaino Z16 appears similar to BNB, Vinylex, etc. a water like, milky looking liquid. I don't have a MSDS or an independant chemical analysis but I'm 99.9% sure its water based just by using it. If I'm wrong, someone please tell me, because I want no solvent based dressings on my tires.

"You are comparing apples and oranges"

They are both tire dressings no? I just like the look. Apparently it is water-based as well. It seems water based by use.

From my experiences most manufacturers recommend USING water-based products on the interior of vehicles, and the use of a water-based product should never be a problem on a vinyl convertble top, the only products not recommended for both are solvent-based:dunno
Water-based products will also not last through weeks of driving in wet weather, thus water-based.

Well one thing we do know is that Z-16 is durable through rain and washes. It retains a satin finish through 2-3 water cycles (rain or wash) in my experience.

Detailer's Pride Gel Wheel cleaner
Autosmart G101
Pacer Nitro wash n wax (tires and wheels)
Wolfgang black diamond tire gel

Have used many varieties of cleaners and tire dressings and I'm sticking with this combo for now.

Thought I would get a definite answer to the questions raised about Zaino Z16 tire shine so I contacted Sal Zaino and asked him about the product:

On whether Z16 is water based or not:

"Z-16 is definitely water based.... and VOC free..."

On what makes Z16 so durable with no use of solvents:

"Z-16 is a polymeric system and is durable..."

On why Sal does not recommend Z16 for use on interior trim:

"Z-16 can be used on vinyl interior. . I personally like the natural look of interior vinyl. Z-16 will give a higher than normal gloss on those panels. It's okay to use it on those surfaces. Try a spot and if you like the way it looks use it. This is a matter of personal taste. Z-16 is safe for those parts."

Finally, on why he does not recommend Z16 for use on convertable tops:

"I currently don't offer a product specifically for convertible tops. Normal washing with Z-7 Car Wash will keep it clean and protected. Z-7 has a protectant and a UV-40 to prevent sun damage."

I really do not want to get into a big debate about Zaino products, I just use them because they work well, I also use a lot of Poorboys and 1Z products for the same reason. 4 Star products are next on my list to try!

I hope this sets the record straight on Z16, which I consider to be a fine product and I still stand by my recommendation of BNB or Z-16 as safe tire shines, worth considering the next time you purchase.

:)
