Tire Cleaner and Dressing Recommendation

Same holds for tires, if we start discussing wheels too, must take note if the wheels are cool, type:clear coat, non clear coat, polished, non polished, etc etc.

I have a 02 tahoo with the alloy stock alloy wheels. Would that be Ok?

R.

Should be OK .. But I have never used it on your wheels so I'd advise you playing safe and spot checking on one wheel first.

Umm the discussion is about tire cleaners . Dressings, yes we can argue till the cows come home about why or why not to use certain kinds. Here are my reasons for using water based one:

Some interesting commentary on that article can be found here:

This is one of the best dressing discussions I’ve read:

Is also solvent based, which is proven to be detrimental to the rubber compounds used in tires. Your choice, look nice and quick to dry or a water based product, which looks nice and take a little longer to dry.

There is a reason why most informed users recommend water based tire dressings rather than solvent based dressings. Read the links Bill offers in his post if you want to learn more.

For tire cleaning I use a brush and Meg's Gold Class wash (soon to be NXT when the GC runs out) in a separate bucket from my wash & rinse bucket. I clean my tires this way every other week and have not had anything this would not handle. I like using the 1Z cleaner on my tires too, but just use it once a month. I have used Simple Green in the past, but found it made my tires a bit brown; properly diluted it may work better. I have also used the 4* wheel cleaner on my tires with a brush.

For dressing, I'm currently using Poorboy's Bold & Bright. The 1Z TP and Poorboy's Natural Look are a bit more matte and I'll probably keep rotating between these three.

I have had good luck with westleys tire bleach . You shoudl wear eye protection and gloves.. although who does.. its makes the hands rough after a while but yeilds a very clean tire.. as far as a shine. i am still searching.. i have used eagle one tire wet but it slings to much .. i have done armerall.. which work ok.. turtle wax tire bleach.. i plan on going to a nxt protectent soon..

I have found out that you have to be carefull with Westley's Bleche White because it can damage the finish on some wheels. Having said that, It is still my favorite tire cleaner when they are really bad. Since switching to Poorboys Bold and Bright, my tire seem to be easier to clean. I use regular car wash soap and when dry, I wipe on BnB with an Eagle One Tire swipe or terry cloth.

What do the seniors do not know? From what I read you think Stoners in your opinion is great, and that all other products are nothing? If so your pretty off. Not trying to sound like a flamer :hippi

When I have clear coated or high polished alum. wheels I use SG 2:1 on the tires. This also means I have to do them twice to fully clean them. But the ph is closer and more safe than a alkaline high ph cleaner. If it has chrome wheels I use a product called "Red Hot" 2:1. This product is very strong and I usually use it for nasty engines also. I have recently enjoyed the results of Meg's Hot Shine in the can. It's cheap and doesn't get on the wheels. I use about 4 different tire dressings depending on what kind of car it is and the size of the tire.

BRAVO! AMEN! And this is coming from someone who used to buy MSLT by the case.

Cleaner - Eagle One A2Z
Dressing - Meguiars High Endurance w/ EO Tire Swipe (regular gloss)

Never tried anything else. Find something you like and use it often.

:yeah I once damaged a set of alloy wheels with Westley's Bleche White. I haven't touched the stuff since then. My tire cleaner of choice these days is Meguiar's Citri-Gel diluted 2:1 with water. I wet the tire, spray CG, let dwell for a couple minutes, then scrub using a nylon bristle brush. I use the same process for cleaning wheel wells.

For a dressing, I prefer to use Poorboy's Bold n Brite full strength on tires and half strength on wheel wells. On the wheel wells, I simply spray and walk away. On the tires, I dispense a small amount onto a foam paint brush then paint the sidewalls. Curved foam tire swipes also work well for higher profile tires. I let the BnB sit on the tires for about 15 minutes, then buff off any excess with a dry cotton towel.

Hey guys thanks for all the input I got. I really appreciate.

I think I'm going to go with EO A2Z for a cleaner and ZAINO Z16 for the shine.

Where's a good source for Z16?

Thanks again.
