Tips for a FK1000P newbie?

Heard such great stuff about this as super long lasting sealant, that I want to use it one of my cars this winter.

I was thinking cleaning the paint with Prime Acrylic and then topping with FK1000P using a 4" pad on my UDM, but a couple of questions:

1. how long between layers (I want 2 or 3 ultimately)

2. if I maintain with a carnauba/polymer QD after washing, will affect the bonding of any future layers that are added?

3. how long should it be left for setting up before buffing?

many thanks

I used it after cleaning the car with DG 501.

I have only used 1 layer, I would think atleast 12 hours for the sealant to cure

I use OCW 1-2 a month after a wash, no problems

20 minutes is what has worked for me

My question is all of you that use it, have you noticed or had to deal with an "oily" residue being left behind after you take wipe it off? I noticed this today on a black car, it looked like halos but I could wipe some of it away, but some remained?

I am dang sure the paint was free from Oils before hand too.

thanks - sounds similar to my plans...

I dont have 501 but Prime Acrylic is probably fairly similar as a quality AIO. I have OCW v2 and also Gtechniq c3, which is a similar nuba/polymer uber-QD that gives additional protection....

Was hoping to get 2 layers in a single session if possible - sure I read this can be layered after 20-30 mins without issues?

I haven't had any issues applying 2 thin layers of 1000p about 20 mins apart. With that being said, I normally apply 1 layer and let it set up for 30 mins before removing. I then come back 24 hours later and do an ONR wash before adding the 2nd layer. I've actually had the best 1000p results when applying/removing 1 thin layer and then apply/remove the 2nd layer the following week. (following a ONR wash) 1000p seems to become glossier/wetter after 3 days or so. (overall cure time?)

OID & 425 are my QD choices for 1000p. Every now and then, I'll amp up the gloss factor with a quick layer of AW. As for your question about a nuba/poly QD, a wash before a 1000p application should ease your bonding fears.

I've never had that problem.

....just a thought....

with the high temperature resistance claim, has anyone used this on wheel duty yet? Will have to make this part of my test as well - perhaps over Prime Strong this time ;)

I use it on my wheels. It does not repel brake dust but makes it MUCH easier to clean. Usually a pray of water is all it takes.

Doing some searching on Finish Kare. I ran across a thread about Pink Wax and Finish Kare responded that Pink Wax like their other waxes only need a lil bit of curing time before adding another layer or topping. Well tonight I sent FK an email, I sent it around 830pm, recieved a response by 10pm WOW I wish their shipping was like that lol. Anyway just for your info here is what they say about cure time before topping or adding a second layer

The cure time between application is the length of time needed for the film

to dry for removal which is aprox. 20 minutes. In other words as soon as the

film drys and is removed with a clean microfiber towel you are ready to

apply your next layer of product bei it 1000P 2685 2180 etc.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Kind Regards

great stuff - many thanks Sal :2thumbs:

will be getting 2 layers of this stuff down next week I hope and getting set for winter at last :)

I've never layered 1000P....may have to give that a shot the next time I use it. I've never had the issues that Greg has been having either. I just apply it with a red pad, let it cure for 20-30 minutes, and then buff off by hand.

well with your tips I spent the day doing a full winter prep on my Audi...

Mark V Glisten (80/20 with IP200) by rotary

2 x FK1000P by hand on all paint and the wheels

WOW, WOW, WOW....this stuff is superb. So much easier to use than 476, looks amazing and i dont think the Audi has ever looked better, and a quick beading and sheeting test was hugely impressive :2thumbs: Straight into my list of top LSPs :D

Used it in the shade, in the sun, on hot panels, left for 20-40 mins and not a single issue. 1 light swipe removed ALL residue - at least as easy as any wax I've used to date :bounce

what do you think...

So far I"ve only used FK1000p on wheels, but it's worked great for that. No layering issues for me either; that's with about an hour between applications.

I do wonder what causes the hit/miss layering problems though...sure wouldn't want to experience that on an entire vehicle

Are you guys using FK425 on the applicator? It seems to work very well for me.

I'm still trying to get some info on how FK1000p works over other products...I've been using 476S on some vehicles simply because I know it'll work over the preceding products and I don't know how the FK1000p would behave  (Note that I will *NOT* be removing the stuff those preceding products leave behind.)

Bigpikle- That sure looks good :xyxthumbs

layered just fine... 2nd layer glides on incredibly easily over itself.

did put some over 4 week old 845 to test it and no issues at all :)

That paint is glowing! Great work!

Glad you like the FK1000p.

I have a friend who just bought a brand new vehicle yesterday (Mazda 5) and will be bringing it by today for a quick wax job. Will be using 1000p for sure! :2thumbs:

cheers Rob - will be using this loads more :2thumbs:

Now I'm wondering what Pink Wax might do over the top of it? Does PW bead and sheet as well as 1000P?

I said on the late FK forum that these products grow another layer of clear over the paint without being plasticky.

I just simply love 1000P & PW. PW's beading is not as impressive as 1000P's but still excellent. Try it. :D

Ah, OK, good...and I'm glad to hear it went over the 845 OK, that bodes well for its bonding to other stuff.
