Thoughts on LSP following Presta workout

My Presta polishes will finally arrive today. I picked up the Presta pads this week and also some Z*PC. So, I’ll have the Zaino product and:<O:p</O:p<O:p</O:p

  • Presta Ultra Cutting Crème Light
  • Presta #1500
  • Presta SMR
<O:p

Subject car is my 1999 Glacier White* (#143) E300. At some point in time, the previous owner used the car wash and a few of the panels have some serious marks that are very obvious under the right lighting. While the surface is very glossy and clean, these car wash brush marks have not been improved by anything I’ve tried so far. Ryan (rydawg) has suggested trying the Presta products. If they don’t work, wet sanding may be the only remaining strategy. Severe areas include the hood, leading edge of the roof and rear quarter panels. I’ve done some polishing with the Makita and PC on the hood and quarter panels, I don’t think I improved the condition at all.<O:p</O:p

Criteria for LSP: This car isn’t driven often and never in inclement weather. LSP durability is a non-issue and not desired. In fact, I am leaning away from “sealants and thinking more along the lines of a carnauba. I’d prefer to stick with something that gives a couple of months worth of protection so I am not confronted with any sort of serious removal challenges when I want to re-do the car. I am going to go straight to the LSP following the Presta SMR or Z*PC. I am not going to lay down any sort of base (AIO, PRIME, etc.). I want to keep it simple and basically just protect the freshly polished surfaces.

<O:p</O:p

I'll most likely do only the panels of specific concern - - I am unlikely to do the entire vehicle right now since it was done this past fall and has only been washed a few times since. Again, durability is not a concern. Here’s most of what I have:

If you find your self saying “no, no, no, these are all wrong, I am happy to hear other suggestions :grinno: ;)

<O:p</O:pAt the moment, I am thinking Pink Wax, Blitz or maybe the Poorboy’s product.

<O:p</O:p

Thanks.

If the Prestas work and look as we could observe on rydawg's pics, my first thought was Pink as well - without seeing your arsenal.

But there are a few products, which a haven't used so I can not make any recommendations.

Regarding brush marks (especially on hard white), try a very aggressive compound on high RPMs (read between 2000-2500). Other way is to use wool pad for leveling. Start with a knitted wool pad, and if necessary upgrade to a twisted one.

Thanks, Bence, that's exactly what I'll be doing. The Presta polishes are used with their wool pads, 2 different grades. I'll follow up with a PC foam pad using either the Z*PC or the Presta SMR.

I'm thinking the Pink Wax might work very nicely for what I am trying to achieve.

Pink Wax, let it haze and buff it off with Aquawax. This gives a really nice effect on white.

I agree with Tim...the Pink and AW combo will look great on white....

Also Presta and Edge have a thing going on...kinda cool...look at the Presta Banner..they tell you what color wool or foam to use....This is something new..I was told this by my friend at the body shop...Presta and Edge worked out a system ...

Yeah, I think EDGE makes the pads for Presta...

yes they do....Presta and Edge developed a polishing system ..its nice..takes the guess work out of guessing what pad or wool to use with a product for results

That's cool. The Presta packaging gives some basic guidelines for pads and their polishes...Like you said, it takes the guess work out of it. :)

will you be polishing tomorrow?

i have 1000P that would look nice on white

or 50/50 mix of #16 pink wax

I don't think I'll be able to sleep this evening without giving it a go. The cars got washed up this afternoon and are ready. I think I'm gonna practice and break-in the pads on the old car :nervous2: It's been a long time since I've worked with wool..probably 10yrs. I've never had a good experience. I suspect working with Presta is going to be a differenct experience. :)

Ok I cant wait for your review

what color wool did you get and where did you order it from?

i am planning on doing my fathers white nissan frontier and would like to try out at least the light cutting creme

Looks great Tom! From what you have I would use PW. Very good stuff and one of my favorite carnubas along with 1000p. Then top it with AW.

The presta Swirl remover will amaze you..trust me. I have used tons of gallons of the 1500 polish and it is the most used polish that I have used.

You definatly got your work cut out being on a MB. Really hard paint, but when done it sure be so smooth and glossy and will last for a very long time.

The edge and Presta have been working together for many many years. Presta use to use the Edge classic pad system before they came out with the 2000 years ago. For some the color combo is nice for beginners and will give you the best results. I can tell you that there wool pads are great and nice and thick.

You definately got some premium stuff there. I hope all goes well and can't wait to see pics!

I bought the green and blue...I think that's all I need. The body shop store in Milford had the best price and ordered them for me.

I'm heading to the garage now. I'm gonna spend some time trying to get the camera set up and get some pictures of the existing scratches. The polishing work should not take too long.

haha Tom...don't be scared. It's not the wool that is bad it's the compounds some use that are dangerous. Presta was designed for wool with the best results. You will or should get great results and the gloss will pop out of your paint. That is my well kept secret that I have used for 10 years and I am sharing with you and most here.

For the wool and foam they have. They are they same color code for wool or foam.

I may not be right but close to the grit cut per my usage. These are averages and will vary with what polishes are used.

Black-heavy cut 1000 grit

yellow-med cut 1500 grit

green-light cut 2000 grit

blue-polish 2500

white-fine polish 3000

I also have the blue foam and that works perfect too for light polishing.

I bought the pads and adapter from the guy in Milford. I ordered the small bottles from a shop in AZ...very slow delivery. I suspect the guy in Milford may have been able to order the small bottles if I had proved the P/Ns. These 8ozs. bottles will last me a long time.
