Thoughts about the old, In with the New.

I've been using this for over 2 years now. FK1000p looks as good as anything I've tried. The beads are nice, the car washes clean easily. The only issue I have experienced was a bit of dried product being difficult to remove. I apply it with a blue 5.5" pad on the PC. My last Volvo had 3 coats that lasted the full year I owned it..

Agree for the most part, especially about how it cleans up, but the looks are gonna be subjective. I myself think it looks OK on some paints, really nice on others, but would be downright *wrong* for what I want on certain paints.

The residue from excess can be a bit of a hassle (and note that I'm a fanatic about thin applications too) and I have some in PPF seams that's just not gonna come out 100% unless I get (too) aggressive about it.

I ran into some issues with pseudo-holograms when I layered it, but five coats are lasting...well...let's just say that (layered hevily) it's a semi-permanent coating that's good for a lot longer than a year (at least the way I use and wash the vehicle). I'd wait as long as possible when layering, the conventional wisdom of a day or so between coats wasn't long enough in my case.

The pseudo-holograms aren't impossible to sort out the way they can be with 476S, but they're still a real PIA and I wouldn't want to deal with them on soft paint as you do need to get pretty aggressive. And they only show up under very specific conditions, which makes the whole thing even more of a hassle.

I tried a lot of products last year. The prima line is outstanding especially Hydro. I also love Victoria's Chaos and their QD.

I saw the pseudo-holograms on the 612 scaglietti. Hit it again and they were gone. There is a pro photo shoot of us all driving that I wish I could post.

I'm sure I'm late to the party, but I recently tried Optimum Car Wash for the first time and really love it. Takes dirt/salt/brine off my car with ease (car was winter prepped with BFWD and Gtechniq C2). Smells good and is concentrated so a little goes a looooong way. Also seems to leave a very nice glossy look, much like ONR. Excellent car wash!

Also love the Blackfire! Hope the durability is good enough to get through until March. Should be topped with C2, I suppose.

Glad you were able to buff 'em away so easily. In my case it was, shall we say...a major project.

Did you just, buff 'em away with a MF and some FK425 or something?

Guess I'm the minority here by I absolutely love M205. Sure there will be paints you come across where a finer polish can improve on the look, but those polishes (Menzerna) also take a long time to break down. I've never really had any issues with M105 either, so it's safe to say they will both have a place in my detailing arsenal for a long time....at least until I find something better that is. :D

In Speaking of Lake Country CCS Pads,

I guess they're ok, it seems that after a few cars, the pads (orange) seems to lose a lot of it's firmness.

Though my pads haven't fallen apart on me, with details taking longer and longer as the pads lose their effectiveness, not quite sure if I want to use the CCS pads anymore.

I look forward to trying the hydrotech's I don't know why I've been putting off using them for this long, but hopefully it will hold it's integrity longer than my CCS pads have.

Then again, maybe the pads I currently have will hold me over until the MF system releases (assuming it doesn't turn out to be a hype-fail/flop product)

No headaches from the residual Trade Secret Oils?

Accumulator, could you elaborate a little on what sort of issues the 205 oils are causing? They can be tough to remove sometimes, but I haven't seen any adverse effects (yet) from using 205. To borrow a smilie from you, I'm not trying to:argue, just curious what you've seen. Thanks!

Last year I tried a crap ton of products my favorites:

sealant on dark cars: Blackfire wet diamond

sealant on light cars: Duragloss 111 CCP

Soap: DG901

ONR

Quick detailer: fk425

carnauba wax: zymol glasur

polishes: Menzerna

Spray wax: OCW & Zymol field glaze

Prewax cleaner/glaze: Clearkote RMG

Sealant glaze: CG ez creme glaze

:sigh: now to use up the rest of my crap

No worries on the :argue mikenap but I appreciate your wanting to make sure.

The problems, and maybe I oughta put that in scare-quotes, are two-fold:

1) Pseudo-holograms, which are sometimes *VERY* minor. I could remove ~90% of them and have it look *perfect* even under the SunGun in a dark shop, and I do mean perfect. But, Accumulatorette and I are both utterly fanatical about anything resembling holograms and in just the right (natural) sunlight, with a certain combo of viewing and illumination angles, and two people who are *really* good at spotting such stuff (one person moves between the sun and the panels to affect a "partial shade to full-sun transition" while the other person also moves to spot that "transitioning rainbow-shadow" affect)...well, they were still there in places.

IPA was only somewhat effective and my old version of PrepWash wasn't much better (the new stuff works pretty well), so this took *ages* to sort out 100% and we had to work at a certain time of day/sun position, so it took a few different days, hence my tendency to rant on the subject. (Props to my wife for helping out!)

2) Similar, but different effects when the M205 is followed by something like ZAIO; a *very* minor, barely visible residue from where the ZAIO seemed to "bring the residual oils up to the surface to get mixed with the ZAIO residue" (or at least that's how it seemed). Said residue was a bear to buff away, but at least re-ZAIOing was usually effective.

This one only happened once, but that was on the beater-Tahoe so it was a lot of territory to clear up. At least I could spot this problem under both incandescents and the SunGun.

Again, both these issues were so minor that I can easily imagine most people never seeing them even after a good inspection. And maybe some glaze/LSP/whatever would sort it out OK :nixweiss

While those are the only "problems", they also make me a little nervous about trying to apply a potentially finicky LSP without a very thorough stripping. Not that I've ever really thought/worried about doing that.

Oh, and lastly, one of my new years resolutions is to not buy a single detailing product this year!

This is going to have to be on my new years resolution list for 2012..
