This is how all brand new black M3's should arrive to the customer

gmblack3a - did you happen to measure the paint on that car? BMW OP is friggen horrible, but some of the panels on that car look even worse than I am used to. Just wondering if your ptg readings were consistent, if you took any.

I asked how that could be, and was told that they have lately been washing them at port before they are loaded onto the transporter. I dont know how much truth there is to that, but, its what I was told.

That makes perfect sense from an insurance/accountability standpoint. Probably BMW USA (or whoever is responsible for transport from port to BMW USA or the dealer) wants to check the cars as they come off the ship to make sure they haven't been damaged on their sea voyage. They are probably filthy making it difficult to check for small damage, so they wash them.

Kevin, if I remember right most reading where in the 5.1 to 5.7 mill range. I can't recall if any panels where in the 4s or not.

Z4 until 2008, X5, X6, are in SC. 3 series, 5 series, 6 series, 7 series, all M's are Germany. As of 2009 Z4's will move back to Europe and X3 will move from Austria to SC.

Sounds normal; same readings I get on 3's. Just crummy OP ridden paint, good times. Nice work saving it. :)

I would imagine this is true. Even when we get them off the enclosed truck, they are dirty/dusty from transport. I can only imagine what they'd look like if they werent cleaned at all before we receive them.
