These are the Chemical Guys Chubby towels?

Just started getting into the whole car detailing thing recently because I have just purchased a new vehicle. I want to keep it looking new as long as possible.

Well, I came upon the Chemical Guys site looking for a deal on microfiber towels and found these CHUBBY 6.35mm THICK SUPRA MICROFIBER TOWELS 16.5 x16.5 (12 Pack). When I opened the package I was quite surprised to see what I received were orange towels and they feel no thicker than the VROOM 12 pack orange towels I just purchased from Target.

Not to be anal, but I started to investigate to see if anything else was not as described in their

facts about the towel. Measured them and they're 16 x 16.5 in. not 16.5 x 16.5 in., and it's 1.8 oz. in weight not the 2.54 oz. stated on the site. A matter of fact the VROOM towels are 2.1 oz. in weight. I'm thinking I was sent the incorrect towels or there is something very wrong with the facts about their "chubbiest, thickest, 2.54 oz." towel.

I ordered 2 dozen a few weeks ago. They are still in the plastic wrap for the most part. I'm not at all happy with them. Mine are blue. The orange target ones I have are much thicker.

I don't know if I should sent them back or not.

Send them back. There is no better way to show your displeasure than to send them back. I would call first, tell them about your problem and first give them a chance to resolve the issue. maybe they'll refund some money or give you some free product(s) ect. Then if they are A-holes about it kick it up the heat and flame them on all the detailing BB.

Keep in mind every retailer is going to hype their product as much as they can. I have yet to see a MF add that reads..."as thin as a hankerchief" but my opinion of most MFs is that they are that thin. Remember Im a big 100% cotton terry fan.

Yeah those towels aren't as chubby as they describe it. I think its still a good towel, especially when polishing and buffing, I have no complaints about their performance. But the advertising is a little exaggerated.

That's my main problem with their description. They tout it as so chubby and thick but charge $19.99 for them plus shipping. I paid $9.99 @ Target for the same amount of towels and they're thicker and 'chubbier' in CG speak.

Seems I'm not the only one dissatisfied with their MF "chubbys". I will definitely give them a call and see why there's such a big discrepancy their site description and the actual product that I and many others received.

I have used their ELITE ULTRA-PLUSH SUPER PREMIUM MICROBIFER MICRO-BANDED 8.75mm THICK TOWEL16" x16" and like them very much. The best towel I have used. But I have not used the ones your talking about.

I probably won't be buying from CG in awhile. Overhyped and doesn't deliver is the best way I can describe their products. Seems like the more products of theirs I try, the more disappointed I get.

I'm not the biggest Meguiar's fan, but their bulk products work as described and for the money, they're actually pretty decent. Unfortunately I can't say the same for CG.

that's a powerful statement mate but you've been here a long time so your opinion is respected. I was never happy with extreme slick QD and extreme bodywash and wax - great in some ways, crap in others.

Dunno, the price makes CG's enticing but they might not cut the mustard and in my game, you gotta have the best.

CG definietly have an over hype marekting system going on. I've heard one too many exagerations (I'm being kind with my wording as they do indeed have some very fine products) to buy anything any time soon. Except maybe their citrus wash...

That's the only product of their's that I'm actually happy with so far until I recently acquired a 2nd gallon and the mixture seems to be off compared to the gallon I already have. CG's CW&G is one of those products that requires good shaking and I have a feeling the 2nd gallon I have was from a batch that either wasn't well shaken and/or one of the later ones poured after the product had time to settle and separate.

And while Paul seems like a cool, nice guy who didn't try and oversell me products I didn't need, there are some business ethics he practices that I don't think is cool, like bad-mouthing their competitors/business partners in front of a customer. I never mentioned anything about this because I thought maybe it was just an isolated situation, but I recently had a talk with a member on here who noticed and experienced a similar thing while at their store.

I hate to come out and make bold statements like these, but it seems like there's been quite a few issues regarding Chemical Guys. Less than a year ago we had an issue where they were knowingly shipping gallon sized products that weren't full gallons. They are a local SoCal company who I wish I could support because I can walk in and get my products without having to wait for shipping, but so far based on product performance and business ethics, I'd rather give my money to other companies at this point in time. There are other companies who are a lot more reputable AND with solid products that don't need to be as hyped up as theirs.

Bingo. I had same problem with paul over the phone earlier this year

Really bagged jeffs werkstatt and all other companies products I was using alot

That's just not on.

I've decided to give my money to a better guy - fred at driven to perfection in San Clemente CA.

One of the best car care purchasing decisions I've ever made was to buy five of his products

Big risk since I had spent thousands of dollars before that but I was pleasantly surprised and love talking to him on the phone now and then.

Quick spray rocks and is the only concentrated QD/spray sealant I know of. 473ml makes a gallon and it is great by rotary with soft foam pad. really lifts the colour of paints right up.

He didn't even know it worked by rotary but I'm the mad wannabe chemist of autopia who will try anything

P.S. hope I'm not spamming.

I also love SONUS USA, thanks Mr El Presidente Bynon

CG's really seems to be having some quality control issues lately.

First of all, I want to make clear that I am not flaming Chemical Guys, but maybe just giving a little customer feedback in this thread. So I have to agree with my Vintage Club member SuperBee . . . the quality control is lacking.

I got my order last week. 1.) 12 of the Satin Edge Elite mf’s had a 6 inch line of brown fibers (paper) and sticky stuff on them – I got it out with some scraping and 2 washes in hot water. 2.) Egdeless mf’s were 14x16 and not the advertised 16x16, they were white instead of the green ones pictured. 3.) Citrus Wash Gloss was filled only 3 ½ inches from the top. Satin Edge and MF Edge Elite Deluxe mf’s are both advertised 8.75 mm, but the Satin Edge is definitely thinner/lighter than the other one. 4.) Someone earlier talked about the Chubby not being so chubby – after purchasing 1 dozen, I have to agree.

These are issues that are very small to me but may be a big deal to someone else. A lot of us order from etailers for the convenience, but what’s convenient about getting products that are not as advertised? Is it worth the time to repackage and then return it just to wait for the replacement? Again, I am not flaming Chemical Guys. I would be more prone to order from them if the QC improves. Oh yeah, and as for the samples that everyone claims that CG just throws in the package for free? I’ve never gotten a single one even though I asked.

I bought (2) packs of the blue "Chubby's" a while back from someone here in the trading post. I was expecting much more after reading CG's misleading description. The towels are very similiar to the orange Target MF's and some of the Chubby's are really soft while others are less soft then the Target towels.

I was dissapointed (w/ CG not Autopia member) but I do use them as my main product removal towel and they do a good job.

I agree. Some of the chubby’s are thicker/thinner and softer/harder than others in the bunch. At $19.99 for 12, it’s not bad. But I think I’d rather get 25 for $11.95 at Sam’s Club and take my chances. Read the description: At the top it said 70/30, the bottom said 80/20. I said something to Paul. He assured me they are 70/30 and he will change the description on the website. Now the website only says 80/20. So what are they made of?

Elite Deluxe towels – top of description says 70/30, bottom of description says 80/20. When I get the towels, the removable sticker says 75/25. So what are they made of?

Again, Quality Control is lacking.

Their yellow MFs with the black trim are hands down the best MFs I own. Their blue Waffle Weave is fantastic as well.
