The time has come!

So if Dad is keeping the Jeep, how will you be "Jeepin'" to school?

I'll only drive the Jeep to school. His commute to work isn't very far, so he'll take his Super Duty. After school, the Lexus (or whatever it will be if the Lexus doesn't get an "A" report) will be mine for around-town driving.

My family's car schedule/assignment "program" is very complex. I think I started it when I joined the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) when I was 11 :D

I'm not sure. If I see it today, I'll try to get the paint code and figure out exactly what it is. I think I'm gonna order a touch-up kit from Paint Scratch dot com.

Well, I spoke to the mechanic today and everything checks out perfectly. He can't seem to find anything wrong witht he car. We're going to go meet him in a little while and take the car for a drive with him, just incase.

Thank everyone for the help. The extended warranty was purchased today ;)

Now, favorite leather cleaners/conditioners? :lol

Heh heh :xyxthumbs You're one sensible sounding guy for somebody your age ;)

I like Griot's Interior Cleaner or Lexol's cleaner. Pinnacle and Griot's make some nice treatment if you don't mind the "leathergoods store" smell. Lexol has a different smell, but some people don't like it.

OK, so some good and/or bad news.

The mechanic was driving it again today and he noticed something that we did on our test drive. When the brakes were applied and the car came to a stop, everything shut off (including the engine) and then started back up again in "Drive" within 2 seconds. When we had this happen, the dealer attributed it to an aftermarket alarm that had been improperly installed before he got tha car. This is why it's being checked out where it is.

So, when talking to Mark, (the mechanic. Very nice guy on the phone) he mentioned that it might be something with the alternator. As soon as I heard this, I thought of the message Steve (GoodnClean) posted about the power steering pump leaking onto the alternator. He's looking at it now, and has a few more tests to run.

I'm glad he found this now, because I'm positive the dealer will pay for any and all repairs required for the car. If he can't fix it, then the car will not be sold to anyone by his store. Very good business. :xyxthumbs

Accumulator, have you used Z-10 leather conditioner? It sounds like it's got a really potent leather smell, which is what I want. I love the smell of fresh leather. How would it compare to Pinnacle/ Griot's?

Mongoose,

I've used Z10 along with Four Star, Pinnacle, AutoGlym, etc. Z10 by far has the best and longest lasting scent, though it isn't as grabby as I like. Four Star and Lexol excel in being "grabby."

No I havn't tried the Zaino. I'm on the other side of the fence on this one, I *do NOT* like a potent leather smell. I like my Audis to smell like Audis, the Jag to smell like a Jag, etc.

Sounds like any of these products will fit the bill for you. To tell the truth, I don't think I've *ever* used a leather treatment from a major manufacturer that was *bad* so IMO you can pretty much flip a coin.

Speaking of gambling (heh heh, sorry, I couldn't resist) just make sure that any and all weird problems are sorted out before you buy the SC. Sounds like you're dealing with good people, but please be careful anyhow.

"Grabby" meaning you don't slide on it as much?

For a conditioner that's going to be applied on a militant, regular shcedule (oh yeah, she's gonna be a spoiled brat) what would be your choice?

Will the others' scent last the 2-3 weeks between each applications? If I had a way to get the new car smell (not that stuff you get in a little spray bottle) then I'd jump all over it. ;) Best smell in the world.

*Edit:

Accumulator,

I don't want an overpowering smell that's gonna make you go dizzy on a long drive, but if the car smells like real leather (potent meaning real, I guess, instead of heavy) then I'll be happy.

Mongoose,

Yes, the Four Star and Lexol do not let you slide around in the seat as much as say, Pinnacle and Zaino. Pinnacle is probably the most slippery of the four products.

Zaino's scent did not last 2-3 weeks in my car, more like 10 days. The scent left behind by Pinnacle and Four Star lasted just a couple of days. The scent is still within the car but not nearly the extent as when freshly applied.

Regardless, I think Z10 will become the conditioner of choice for MY car just because of its scent. I'll order some as soon as I decide if I also want Z16.

I was trying to decide if I wanted some Z16 as well. The picture recently posted here looks great. I guess I'll try the Z10, then.

I also think I'm gonna try the 1Z Gummipfledge (I know I spelled that wrong) because the car is not young, and I don't feel like replacing weather stripping yet :p

Hard to go off pictures with a tire dressing. The Four Star I posted pictures of looks great when freshly applied but once it gets wet, it disappears. I reapplied the dressing on Saturday and it rained today so I'm willing to bet most of the dressing is gone.

Z16 is next in line.

Is there anyway I can decode the VIN to determine the color code? I'd like to order a touch up kit from Paint Scratch, but don't feel comfortable going off the color name alone.

I can PM the VIN to anyone that has this magical gift.

Hey, I have just scanned this entire thread and I see 1000 word but no pictures??? What up??? Did I miss something? Congrats on the new car Mongoose.

Ah, I wish I had some pictures.

If the car checks out ok by the mechanic, I might be able to pick her up tomorrow or Wednesday. Dad is going out of town for business on Wednesday, so unless the dealer can arrange to have it delivered, I can't get her home until the weekend, and I'll be camping.

But I promise, before/after pics AS SOON as I get to tackle it. I might even start a thread on my experience with touch up paint. I'll probably b using DavidB's technique as mentioned in the E-book.

*Edit: Scottabir, I guess I should just wait and read the label on the door.

Is it even possible to determine the color code with the VIN?
