The time has come!

Well best of luck to you and post some pics in this thread so as to make sure some of us don't miss the pics. I am not always in every room of this place.

As soon as I heard this, I thought of the message Steve (GoodnClean) posted about the power steering pump leaking onto the alternator. He's looking at it now, and has a few more tests to run.

$50 says this is the culprit ;)

You can register the car once you buy it on lexus.com and it will tell you the name of the color. You can also order complimentary owners manuals if the car doesn't have them.

I assume we caught it early on. Will the entire alternator/ PS pump assemblies need to b replaced?

We have a deposit on the car, so he can't sell it to anyone else. I'm sure he'll pay for the parts if they're necessary.

And I'm not going to bet the cash. You're in DC, right? I bet you 1 bottle of product this is the culprit.

;) :lol

Is there anyway I can decode the VIN to determine the color code? I'd like to order a touch up kit from Paint Scratch, but don't feel comfortable going off the color name alone.

I can PM the VIN to anyone that has this magical gift.

The VIN does not contain the color code. It's usually a separate sticker somewhere on the doorjamb.

LOL ;)

Yeah the PS pump and the alternator will likely have to be replaced if it is the PS pump dripping on the alternator. Lucky they found this this is a $1500+ job.

Look in the LS forum on the LOC, and search for "Alternator cover" someone got so tired of replacing alternators because they had a chronic P/S leak that they devised a cover to go over the top of the alternator to deflect the fluid.

Its common for people to leave the P/S pumps leaking because they're so expensive to replace.

Man, I would definitely buy a brand new Mazda 3 for under 15K before I bought a used car...I drove a manual 4 door one and it was a riot!!! Beautiful colors available too, and even better you'd get to pick it!!!

Just a lucky guy who found a good deal.
That's what you call a 16 yr. old who drives a Lexus, other people probably say something else. Just ignore them.

Steve, I already get crap for pulling out a PDA in class.
You don't like, wear a suit and tie to class do you?

PC.

The car is nice, but it's used, 10 years old, and was cheaper than a typical Civic is new. I find myself talking it down more than I do bragging. I'm definitely not the kind of person who likes to brag about things.

Not regularly. Jeans and a T-shirt. I only have to wear a suit and tie for certain occaisions in my Marketing class. This is maybe once a month. I'll have to get "all gussied up" next Friday because I'm going to the DECA state competition in Norfolk. :Fingers crossed: :D

Palm M505.

Don't ask me anything else about it, though. I don't know any of the specs. All I know is that I prefer typing my notes in class more than writing. That, and I like playing a game or two when I finish notes before everyone else. :) And the color screen is

I won't be picking her up tonight unless the mechanic has figured it out and doesn't mind us dropping by late. Both of my parents are at work late tonight. If Dad's not able tp pick it up tomorrow, then I have to wait for the weekend to roll around. Pics won't be up til Sunday afternoon at the earliest as I'll be out of town :(

LOL you sound just like me when I was your age.

You had a PDA when you were a kid?

Haha ;)

Dad and I are heading out now. We might give Mark (mechanic) a call to see how things are going.

Update...kinda.

After some searching on a few Lexus boards, I think it is called "Silver Spruce". I believe it's paint code 181.

*Edit: nevermind. After comparing pictures with my mom, we finalized that she is, in fact, Teal Mist Metallic. I had trouble with it because I'm slightly color deficient with reds and greens. :(

Quick update.

Mark (the mechanic) has found the problem.

Steve, you owe me a bottle of product, and I'm in debt to you $50. :rofl

Yup, it was the alternator. I called Mark and left a message to ask specifics, to see if maybe it was a leak from the PS pump, or something else- blah blah blah.

They have already ordered a new one. Being that the car already has a deposit on it, it's ours. But, we don't have the title yet, and our names aren't on any of the documents. This make me kind of worried as to who was paying for the repair. Like I said though, the dealer is a great man and won't sell anyone a broken car.

It'll be ready by Friday :D

And I'm not going out of town, so full detail and pics if weather permits this weekend.

I'd like to thank everyone for their help and suggestions. It goes to show how friendly this board is :)

If the P/S pump is still leaking it will keep on fouling alternators until it is replaced. I'm 99% sure thats what caused it as thats almost always the cause of a bad alternator in these cars.

Make sure they're straight with you! Thats a hugely expensive repair.
