The push I needed, (you gotta read this)

Sounds like a good opportunity :up

In the UK you could claim either unfair dismissal or breach of contract. I would seek the opinion of a second lawyer and one who deals in this area of the law. Generalist are fine for routine work but in my experience of (UK) employment law, you really need a specialist.

I think what they did to you stinks!!!

It sounds like they were looking for an excuse to reduce staff.

Now show them how "big" you can get :bigups

Good luck

NYD... a friend of mine had a similar circumstance. He's an electrical engineer and was working for a company that made computer parts. He and another engineer started a small side venture starting a company refurbishing the machines used to make the chips. In the beginning, it was just the two of them working a few hours a night and on weekends.

Their employer saw their little venture as a threat and fired them.

They went out on their own, and now have a thriving business with plants in New Hampshire, Texas and Japan.

Ironically, the company they had worked for went chapter 11, was bought out by a competitor and closed down. The jerk that fired them applied to to their company for a position. Can you guess what their answer was? ;)

That is the most absurd thing i have ever heard!! If your doing your job they shouldnt really care about ur outside life. If i were you I would try to fight that and sue them if possible. Im not very sure, but that seems like a very shady excuse to me. Was your detailing affecting your job performance, attendance, tardiness etc? If not something is fishy with that excuse. Anyways, best of luck with everything!

Everyone is looking at this wrong. Lets just say that NYD was the employer and his employee was working as an adjuster on the side, how happy would he be. I want say that when an employee works for me, he works for me only. I will pay him to make sure that I am his only employer. I am happy for NYD in the fact that now he can prove to himself that he can take his business to the next level and I wish him luck. Remember always take opportunity over security.

There's an awfully big difference between appraising collision damage to a vehicle and appraising a car's paintwork and interior surfaces for detailing.

As long as one job does not interfere with the other, there is no problem.

In my line of work...having personnel who are carpenters, plumbers, electricians, backhoe operators, computer gurus, paramedics and such on the side is an asset. Their talents have been used many a time to give fireground commanders the information they need to mitigate an incident as safely as possible and end the duty tour with the same number of people that it started with. As we say in the fire business...everybody goes home!

God forbid that someone supports the Democrats. Conservatives amaze me at times. It must be nice to go through the world with blinders on.

Lets keep this thread on topic instead of discussing the virtues of political parties.

There is a big difference between moveon.org and your normal grass roots political groups. moveon.org is a hate group; having ads on their site comparing Bush to Hilter goes way too far. I would be equally critical of a conservative site making similar comparisons to Kerry.

Back on topic-

Brian! Give us an update!

there was an ad on Gee Dub's website that was a TV ad for the election (duh) which had a whole bunch of shots of democrats yelling and then showed a shot of hitler. this was a republican ad. So, it wouls seem you'd have to be critical of bush himself, wouldn't you say?

Best of luck to you. I have worked for a co. for 31 years. I paint houses and detail cars under my own business, also. I work 60 to 75 hours a week because I love to work.Forty hours for my employer and the rest for me. No one is safe at a job today. I have 3 years to retirement at 60. Only you can provide for your family, your boss does not care one hoot. Hope you make a million. Think Big,work hard and do what you love. The money will come.

He's so right, but if you should become a "boss" try to become someone that gives a hoot.......We need to change that as well as teach values and work ethic.

That was a clip from one of the Hitler ads on moveon.org showing what is out there against Bush. I haven't seen the ad myself so I can only go by what I have heard about it. If the ad was comparing Kerry to Hitler, then yes, I think that is wrong.
