The New 2007 Toyota Camry....(pics 56k ok)

Really? I just looked at the new Lexus LS460 and the paint was the best I've seen from any manufacturer. It was flawless obsidian black and perfectly smooth. Not even a hint of OP.



I read that Toyota had designed a new paint management/control system that controls the process in real time so maybe this is an example of what we can expect. I have not looked at the Toyota vehicles though.



This vehicle was amazing. It looked like it was just pulled from a vat of paint.
 
Hmm, maybe I'll stop by a Lexus dealership just to stare at the paint...haha



All of the 'mainstream' car brands seem to have OP'ed paint with a thin clearcoat from what I've witnessed firsthand, with the exception being Volkswagen.



The upper-echelon car brands usually have very good paint. Mercedes and their new Ceramiclear clearcoats are awesome(scratch resistance) and I guess Lexus should now be on that list.



Car & Driver stated that Audis have the best paintjobs in the world, and I can't find a reason to disagree with them, all of the ones I've seen are flawless.
 
My Mom just bought a 07 Camry to replace her 94 Camry V6 with 180K. NOTHING ever went wrong. Tell me a 'Merican car could do that...ha. They can't even copy a good car, let alone build one from scratch.

lol, sad but true. Most of my family drives only foreign cars. It all started when my dad bought a Honda and all his car troubles dissapeared. Now we all do it. By the way, my mom just got an 07 Camry too, although it's the hybrid version. She went from filling up her tank 6 times a month to once every 3 weeks! It's definently a luxury hybrid so to speak. Rated at 40 MPG, but actually she get's around 42. It's nice to have a car that actually gets better than advertised mileage for once! It's been below zero quite a bit around here and she hasn't had any battery problems etc. And with the CVT transmission it can accelerate quite well. Plus it has leather, navigation, heated seats, bluetooth, and quite a few other things. A car like that deserves some respect. I own an American car now (Grand Prix) but I'll never buy another American car of any kind again, unless a miracle happens with their reliability. My engine and trans are great but the rest of the car is falling apart. Oh well, the power makes up for it lol.

if single stage, all their black paint has been exceptional.
 
between these two choices for light to moderate swirls (LC white pad + OP) or (#80 + megs polishing pad), what results have worked better between the two on the new camry for you? i may be doing a black one in a few weeks...
 
I do have to say I am very disappointed with my 2007 Camry paint. I already have 2 rock chips in my hood after 5 months. Also, when I inspected the rock chips the paint is ver y thin as is the clearcoat. It is a tad discouraging but I think if I maintain it it should be manageable.

did you measure the thickness? How can you tell that it is thin? Maybe the lack of orange peel confusing you?
 
It isn't supposed to be a cutting edge, fully refined 4 door sports car (Lexus). Its a grocery getter that received a very pleasant makeover.



With that said, its miles ahead of the old Camry and gives the people in that car market a little something to get excited about.



And yes I agree it is a safe design (so is Toyota) but I would like to see the Supra re-born.
 
Actually, this new Carmry is the only Camry I would ever own. I think it beats all the old ones in the looks department and nt to mention all the other departments.
 
haha my dad has an 05 it is very comfy on the inside and nice to look at the outsidee... the new ones are sooooooooooooooooooooooooo ugly agreed..

If that's what you want to believe, fine for you. Otherwise I say baloney. I've been doing some customer service related consulting for new car dealerships, and as a result, I've had a chance to test drive the 2007 Camry V-6. All flash, no substance. Handling has been softened so much, I though I was in a six year old Buick, and the V-6 performance, while quite nice, is still nothing to crow about compared to the competition. The Honda Accord and Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan V-6 all felt faster, as did the Hyundai Sonata. With the all wheel drive, on wet pavement, driving the Fusion V-6, I felt more in control. Even more on some less-than-ideal pavement.



Camry's over rated, and the six or seven years Toyota had an oil sludge problem in their engines doesn't fill me full of the warm-and-fuzzies.
 
Sorry, this car is really ugly. It depends how you look at it, though.



Its funny when they have the "SE" package, its like, what am I driving a family sedan or a sport sedan? I guess a turn around a twisty or stomp on the accelerator will be all it takes to know.
