The lemon list

WooHoo!! We're #1 ...Go Escape!!!!

oh, wait....

I guess I've been pretty lucky not to have a single problem since I bought mine almost 2 years ago. Still, this worries me. It's probably going to kill my resale value.

Funny about the Civic. Something isn't jiving there because Phil Edmonston's book "Lemon Aid" and Consumer Reports both rate Civics as one of the best cars to buy.

Finding the Honda Civic on the list did not suprise me one bit. We bought a 2 year old '98 Civic EX coupe for my daughter 3 years ago. We made the purchase based on people's testimonies of their reliablilty and durability (ie. basic maintenance is all that is required). Our mileage has certainly varied. As my daughter is able, we will be selling the Civic and replacing it with.......NOT a Honda.

That is very weird indeed. My 95 Civic SI has 250,000 on it and I haven't done anything but regular maintenance (I am quite religious about this). Two of my neighbours and three of my friends own 1989-1991 civics each with over 300,000 and they don't do anything to them other than oil changes and tune ups.

These things happen I guess. My father in-law had a 1986 Chevette for years and never had any trouble with it. I had a 1985 Chevette and had nothing but problems.

There are many good cars out there so I’m sure you’ll have no problem finding what you’re after.

my GF has a 00 civic with 105000 on it without a problem ever. . .

Jeeeeeze people! where do you drive to??? Neither of my '99 Honda motors have more than 60,000 on them. How do you rack up 105,000 in 3 years? That's like 3000 miles a month! That is nearly as bad as Mr. 30,000 Miles Per Year civic up there. lol Gotta love the Honda for miliage.

You also have to consider that the number of 5,843 complaints is probably out of a much higher production number of vehicles than the 6,145 complaints on the Aztec. That is probably a 1:1 complaint ration for Pontiac and a 1:10,000 ratio for Honda. :lol

I guess I would rather buy a car where I stand an excellent chance of having a car that is capable of 200,000 + miles rather than buying a car where you have an excellent chance of blowing a head gasket before you reach 60,000 miles. Oh, wait.... I did both of those. LOL Not anymore though. For me and my family it will be Honda or Subaru or nothing. I guess as long as my wife is in charge it will be Honda or nothing. ;)

oh yeah... Jngrbrdman... 3000/month isn't "nearly as bad" as 30,000/year... it's 6000 more than that :) oh... and it's 2916.667 miles/month for 105,000 in 3 years ;)

I put 20-30,000 on a year easy... course it doesn't help that it's a 45 minute drive to the movie theater (or it was back home in NH anyway) :nixweiss

Aww. :( I guess I won't be able to get my Aztek now.

What a machine!

I always thought the new Honda's where over rated. They might be able to go 200k+ but will there interior make that long too?

I hear there some deisel Mercedes that have over a milllon miles on them. I wonder how there interiors are holding up.

Nice to see I made #3 on the list.....let's just hope she goes another 150,000 miles! My 1986 Olds Delta 88 made it to 289,000 miles before she went kaput.

The interior of my 250,000 Civic Si is as new and it has no rattles or squeeks. I have replaced the floor matts once and I use rubber ones in the winter.

I on the other hand believed the hype of Honda products. Your point is well made on the interior, very cheesy fabrics. Moving outside, very flimsy body parts, bad paint jobs. Under the hood, AC compressors that can't last a year. Suspension components??? My rant could go on for pages. Maybe the engine will run on and on, but what good will it do if there is no car around it to go anywhere?

I see from other posters that there are some happy Civic customers. I'm happy for you. It is my experience, however, that Honda can and does build junk just like any other auto manufacuturer out there. My comparison spans 3 decades and numerous vehicles including domestics from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's and imports from the 70's and 90's.

Every car maker has produced its fair share of defects. I don't believe that Honda deliberatly goes out there intending to make junk. Every other car I see on the road is a Honda out here. You can gauge the value of a car by how many ugly ones you see on the road. I see more ugly 15 and 20 year old Hondas, Toyotas, and Subarus out there than any other car. That says something about the reliability of them.

I'm not about to get into a debate about imports being better than domestics or the other way around. It doesn't matter. Just pick a car and drive it and stop looking for faults in everybody else's car is what I say. I'm not saying that to anyone here, but just to the world in general. As long as what you drive right now makes you happy then that is it. There is no point in defending your choice to the death. Its just a car. Certianly there are other issues that are more important that poeple can waste their time defending or opposing.

The stats are the # of complaints. It doesn't show the severity distribution (dang I'm a dork :)). For example a complaint could be the radio doesn't work sometimes OR the engine doesn't start when it's below 40. A car with a faulty engine is way more of a lemon than a car with a faulty radio.

heck, the Focus got recalled ~5 times.
